'67 through the mid 80s -- Rock
Mid 80s through mid 90s -- Metal
Then a hodgpodge; New Age, Celtic, World Music
By mid 2000s, Symphonic/Gothic Metal
And in the 2010s -- back to Jazz!

It is true that I do stay away from listening to the music that deals with Satan & friends (but not stuff like Van Halen's Running With The Devil). That does play a big part in me not listening to black metal. I also don't like the Neo-Nazi aspects that some of the bands have. I will admit that I am not one who is adept at musical terminology and wouldn't know what timing or key a song is in. Now the reason why I don't listen to much of the black metal that tends to stray away from such topics is that I just don't like the lo-fi aspect of it mixed with the shrieking or how heavily distorted their guitars are. I like guitar distortion, but black metal is just too much, but there again it could just be because of the lo-fi aspects.

Metal! Metalcore, Deathcore, Djent, Melodic Death Metal and all that other goodness (but not so much with black metal).

Yea, a good song is a good song regardless. Majority of my favorites do fall into alternative category though.

Aha tbh I do play it up a little bit, I listen to plenty that's not jazz. It just sticks out for me - I think mostly because I've been listening to a lot of Blue Note for the BLT.

And nah, I tried learning keyboard and guitar when I was younger but was never really too into it. I am hoping to learn piano though, but I need a job before that happens.

And yeah it is natural to find monotony if you're only listening to one genre alot, if I listened to nothing but jazz I'd get mad bored, that's why variety is so important.

Obviously like everyone in this thread (I'm guessing) I like lots of different sorts of music but I think my fav genre is jazz, including vocal jazz. The mix of the incredible instrumental skill of most jazz musicians, the passion of them and the unpredictability of the genre means its best work just sounds so lively and vital. God willing, if I get the funds to buy and learn the piano, it will definitely be as a jazz musician.

I hate the word "Ameripolitan". I hate that they are using it to actually distance themselves from the music the artists are strongly influenced by...like rats leaving a sinking ship. Call your music what it is. And the list of artists on the Ameripolitan site is really sketchy and incomplete. I don't see this as helping to fix anything at all.

The Ameripolitan badging isn't much different than the Americana badging of music.
