Pomegranates by Nicolas Jaar

Sometimes when I think back to the past, I do not know what it is I see. It comes in fits and starts, like a television in a winter storm or scribbles on paper. And it is always watching me, too...

Philosophy Of The World by The Shaggs

Is this the sound of pretense stripped away... or perhaps just the sound of another layer applied? I care not which it is for the Shaggs, but I do wonder for myself.

22, A Million by Bon Iver

There is a sense of someone reaching for God in this music. The utter futility of such an endeavor is betrayed in its presentation -- to attempt to portray something much greater than us is only to reveal our humanity more clearly.

Mauricio Kagel: Playback Play by Mauricio Kagel / Ensemble MusikFabrik NRW

It is like the bustle of life, as seen by someone who is always indoors.

succinct, poetic, and pretty much sums up the feeling of the thing better than I could in 30 times as many words

Distant Plastic Trees by The Magnetic Fields

What would it mean to see the world through the eyes of a weathered and desperate child? It would mean a lover many times jilted, craving the simplicity of a happy ending, but knowing that the story ends differently. Yet you will never stop looking to the distance for fire trucks and trains.

Cookin' With The Miles Davis Quintet by Miles Davis Quintet

I indulge in the occasional fascination with precision and virtuosity in a conventional setting, but for some reason these fascinations are always short-lived. The question is not that we will learn, but that we will learn what we would like to. Perhaps we should not be so particular, however.

Phantom Of Liberty by Câmera

Is expert use of the hypnotic motorik really so unoriginal? Are blues progressions yet hackneyed? Is triadic harmony a cliché?

No. From a sunny morning to a distant galaxy, riding on a shooting star.

It bubbles and shimmers with a light that transcends a campy title or a casual trip to the planetarium. The sonic imagery of Vision Creation Newsun comes to mind, but whereas that left me exposed to the midday sun, these are gentle rays of morning.
