I did enjoy listening to the first half of Anno Domini until it got really goofy in the second half. That kind of reverb-ladened husky vocals trying to be threatening kind of pulls me out of the experience and prevents it from being a TRVE EVOL KVLT KLAZZIK.

I know I'm going to be boring voting for Vol. 4, but this is bloody Black Sabbath we're talking about, and even one of their "weaker classics" are still better than some metal bands' best work. Also, Supernaut is like a top 5 Sabbath riff.

Voted for Tormentor. Possibly the most evil thrash metal album I've heard, likely because it borders on black metal. And Elizabeth Bathory is amazing.

I enjoy Vol 4 but not as much as Paranoid or Master of Reality, and while Snowblind is one of my favorite Sabbath songs there are other tracks like Changes that really bring it down for me.

Fair points/respectable opinions. Don't get me wrong Vol 4 is a great (and inarguably significant) record and quite possibly my favorite Sabbath, but I'd also not like to let the comparable significant of Anno Domini to go understated in the face of an established monolith. (Also AD does more for me personally but you already knew that).

Haha, but yeah there is no way that Anno Domini is anywhere in the relative ballpark as one of the most important doom metal forebears— everyone from Sleep to Cathedral to St. Vitus to Confessor has put on record the importance of Vol 4 to them. Sabbath wrote some of their very best songs on this record (Snowblind, Supernaut, Wheels of Confusion, Cornucopia, etc.) and I happen to believe this is Black Sabbath’s masterwork even with many others stating Paranoid and Master of Reality above it.

Anno Domini does not have one song equal to Snowblind or Supernaut. Easy choice.

yes Vol 4 is by Sabbath but Anno Domini may very well be the key link between the first and second waves of black metal, somehow perfectly embodying the raw thrash influence of the former alongside the more sweeping tone of the latter. It is a perfect (and surprisingly versatile) black metal album as well as a flawless work of darkened thrash. Not to mention "Elizabeth Bathory" is a goddamn classic
