Taxman, with Magical Mystery Tour earning honorable mention.

Not much use for the rest. The most popular, Come Together, is the worst one of the bunch.

It's definitely amazing, and I almost chose it, actually. The bass in that one is superior, and the overall drive makes my head bang like no other non-metal song!

That's very interesting, because I agree, in a way, and you're the first person except myself I've seen say something like that. Actually, I think the SONG is great, but the TRACK is rather average. I say this because I saw this kickass Beatles tribute band twice in my local town, and they slayed on Come Together, it was so hard-hitting and awesome (and even inspired me to write a song later that night!), making it one of the highlights of the show. The Beatles' studio recording of this song, however, seems to hold it back. I can't even explain what exactly makes it so.

Same for me, Drive My Car is just sublime. I love the other ones you mentioned too. Regardless, this was one hell of a difficult choice, most of their opening songs are pretty much perfect songs, holy crap.

chose sgt pepper because of the lead guitar part.

come together was second followed by taxman, because that bass line is sick.

I heard George Martin once say in an interview about the Love album, that Come Together was the Beatles best performance... in his opinion.

I'll have to go through my Beatles library again sometime - I don't recall half these songs as being the opener of their albums. I'm almost certain Help! is the first track on what WAS side 2 of Help! Guess I have to go back and look, been a while 🤡

EDIT: ok, so having confirmed all these tracks...I have to say the Beatles sucked at picking an opening track 🤣

My favorite of them is Taxman, but it's a lousy choice as opening track. I'd say of them all Help! might be the best pick, or perhaps Come Together. But really...they could have spent more time organizing their albums, but back then I guess it wasn't considered so important.

I'm putting my vote in for Taxman, because the misleading count-off says so much about what Revolver is about to be. Plus the sound of George saying "one, two, three" sends me shivers every time.... Besides the fact that it's a fantastic song.
