This is a really short sample, but in No More Parties In L.A. by Kanye from TLOP there's a sample of this guy saying "Los Angeles" and I really love that sample. It goes with the song so well. It kinda sounds like something you'd hear in Grand Theft Auto or one of those arcade racing games as you're driving through the city or something, which is a weird thing to include in a hip hop song, but it makes it sound so much more badass.

Off the top of my head, the best use of a sample in music would be "California Love" by 2Pac feat. Dr. Dre & Roger Troutman, which turns the piano riff from Joe Cocker's "Woman to Woman" into a groundbreaking anthem. The worst would be "Loverboy (Remix)" by Mariah Carey feat. Da Brat, Ludacris, Shawnna and Twenty II, for making a great production ("Candy" by Cameo) sound like incoherent crap.

My favorite use of a vocal sample is in Remember, by Groove Armada. Its from a late 60s song by Fairport Convention called Autopsy sung by Sandy Denny. It sounds so much like she's there in the studio singing over Groove Armada's music that u can't imagine the song in any other setting.That's how skillfully its done. And when I went to first hear the original by Fairport Convention, I was disappointed to find its not near as good as the sample. Groove Armada made it sound like a much better song by than it actually is. Amazing.

Literally too many to choose from for best. A good proportion of my favourite albums ever are built around samples. That Freddie Scott sample on 'Just a Friend' is super fun. And I always loved how 'My Mind is Playing Tricks on Me' turns a lovely, bluesy guitar line from a Curtis-indebted, upbeat Isaac Hayes number into something claustrophobic and hallucinatory. But yeah, there are way too many to pick from. I wouldn't even know where to start with any list.

We've all heard it a thousand times but "Stan" by Eminem.

He samples in so much of his music, but something about Dido's "Thank You" in "Stan" clicks. Great song.

Probably has both the best and worst use of samples... hahaha. At least I've heard mixed feelings about his sampling in there. I on the other hand like it... although this was my favorite album of his in the late 90s/early 2000s, I just don't listen to it anymore.

- "The Sounds of Science" by Beastie Boys (samples "The End" by The Beatles)
- "Rhymin' and Stealin'" by Beastie Boys (samples "When The Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin and "Sweet Leaf" by Black Sabbath
- "Glory Box" by Portishead (samples "Ike's Rap II" by Isaac Hayes)
- nearly every track on Massive Attack's Blue Lines, Protection, and Mezzanine albums
- nearly every track on The Avalanches' Since I Left You album

Entroducing has surely got to qualify as the best use of samples, simply as the entire album is made up of samples. Or are we talking one-off samples in specific tracks here?

Death Grips use samples in some of the most creative ways I've seen. A perfect example of this would be that somehow they managed to use grunts from a Williams Sisters tennis match in their song System Blower.
