Usually, it's a legal/contractual thing. I'm sure there are more I could list. Plus, there have been a lot of artists who have appeared onstage under a pseudonym (but, never released recorded music under that name). All of the ones I mentioned above have actually recorded under the name listed.

So, we'll just thow Rockpile out of the list since it technically released only one studio album under the name "Rockpile," but had additional success under other names (besides, we can argue that there was a second ROCKPILE album, too! A LIVE Rockpile album was released...I was just counting studio stuff).

That was the German/American band's only release and it was in 1966. I guess you'd classify it as "proto punk."

The group you're talking about is a totally different band. That was a U.K. pop-punk band that released this album in 1979:

They released TWO albums. The second one, though, was only released in Canada.

YES thank you, forgot to acknowledge this earlier! Also, I have to admit that one of the reasons I am now is at least partially to draw more attention to the album 😉 People not familiar with O'Hara's work would probably find it hard to believe such a miraculous vocal talent has remained so ignored for so long. Miss America is a truly amazing work, among the greatest albums of the 80's and of all time.

Forgot this one. Jason Falkner (Jellyfish/Air/Beck) and Jon Brion (producer and super musician) once played in The Grays who made one single album before they broke up. Very good.
