Pretty much any of the themes done by Mike Post (the John Williams of the small screen). Most were for Stephen J. Cannell produced series (major guilty pleasure cheez whiz for testosterone fueled TVs).

High points include:
The Rockford Files
Renegade
Baa Baa Black Sheep
Hunter
The A Team
CHiPs
The whole bloody Law and Order franchise

I know!!! Mike Post. I think he's the greatest too. When I was making my list all I could remember at the time was Rockford Files and Hill Street Blues. I couldn't remember the other ones. Rockford Files was actually a big hit, a number one record I think. But he was awesome

I had that theme as my ringtone for about a year, no joke.

Some others I have not seen brought up.

Anything by Shinichiro Watanabe (Speaking of Anime)

Pee Wee's Playhouse

Ren And Stimpy

Fresh Off The Boat (Danny Brown)

Rocko's Modern Life (The B52's)

and my personal favorite

Just thought of another couple of great ones from my childhood, one being weekend world, which I discovered many years later that is was nantucket sleigh ride by mountain. The best of all is World in Action theme. An incredible piece of music, apparently by mick weaver & Shaun Philips. Just listened on YouTube and sounds as good as ever but a bit of a sad story from mick saying he never was paid and had had no credit on he track, even though he co wrote it.

You can't beat what the genius guys who worked for KPM library did in the 70s and 80s. One of the best being Dave Allen at Large theme. They also did grandstand, ski Sunday, grange hill, Wimbledon and so on. Basically loads of well know tv themes and incidental music you didn't know you liked.
I was partial to the professionals theme as a tiny kid and thought they were cool as fuck too.
Starskey and hutch was a cool theme but they were not as cool as bodie and Doyle.
