Another cool female studio musician is Ms. Bobbye Hall. She's on just about every album in the universe from Pink Floyd The Wall to Tom Waits to Stevie Nicks to Stevie Wonder Carole King to Marvin Gaye just about every Motown record. She has a very cool Story too.

Rather than band members I like to follow the careers of famous session musicians. Usually ones that have long careers dating back to the 60s or seventies. They are on hundreds and sometimes thousands of Records. These were Studio musicians who were called on to play on records for various famous artists. But they are rarely household names like the artist who sessions they played on. Here's just a few examples off the top of my head whose sessions I seek out. if I heard they're on a certain record I'll seek out that record.
Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section
The Wrecking Crew
I haven't listened to any of his stuff, but apparently Scott Walker has been all over the place, starting at baroque pop in the 60s and ending up with avant-garde music in the 00s and 10s.
I also think that Daft Punk has progressed beautifully (if you ignore Human After All, which was just bad). Going from Homework, an acid-house debut, to an almost electropop Discovery, to Random Access Memories, which is basically disco. I'm sure if you played a song like Get Lucky for a Daft Punk fan in the late 90s they would never guess that it was the same band.

I guess that all of my favorite singers fall into this category:

James Otto
Alison Krauss
LeAnn Rimes
Tanya Tucker
Trace Adkins
Darryl Worley
Brad Paisley
Toby Keith
Kenny Chesney
Hal Ketchum
Brooks & Dunn
Diamond Rio
SheDaisy
Steve Sanders of the Oak Ridge Boys (deceased)
Billy Joe Royal (deceased)

God bless you and them always!!!

Are there any artists with a long and ever changing career for which you try to follow (and appreciate) each musical step they take whatever the album or the band they were playing on and/or in.

These are the ones for me (and I also give their most important band(s)):
- Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees)
- Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü, Sugar)
- Ed Kuepper (The Saints, The Aints)
- Stephen Malkmus (Pavement)
- Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh)
- Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate)
- Robert Pollard (Guided by Voices), but this last one is a challenge because he's really prolific.
