This is fascinating I don't quite get it though. Were they said to be three replacement Paul's? 3 decoys?

I think the main theory is that Paul was replaced by a double. But I just like the fact that this photo is authentic (it was published in the "Beatles Monthly", Issue #61 from August of 1968). The fact one can spot three people ressembling Paul on it is probably one of those strange and funny coincidences/ironies of fate/glitches in the matrix 😄

I first heard the Rod Stewart urban myth circa 1979. I also heard it applied to Elton John and Mick Jagger around the same time.

Just the fact that it was first said about Rod Stewart, and then a decade later was said about Marc almond pretty much tells you it's a rumor. Just the person changed over time but the story stays the same, I've heard the same story told about different Hollywood actor s. The person involved just changes to reflect the time it was said in..

The one that did the rounds at our school was the Rolling Stones mars bar party. Police raid a debauched party at the house of one of the Rolling Stones only to find Mick Jagger using a mars bar on a groupie in an original way.

Also the rumour that circulated for years about Mick Jagger being well endowed. Keith Richards put paid to that one a few years ago when his biography came out and he said Jagger was tiny. Rumour probably began because of the photo of the bulging crotch on front cover of Sticky Fingers album. Bu that belonged to Warhol actor Joe Dallesandro.

Oh and as for the Rod Stewart rumour. I always heard it was Marc Almond.

I don't know how it got started, but I remember there being a rumor a few years ago about Reba McEntire being dead. She had to confirm on her Twitter page that she was still alive and well.
