This. I want to hear about the best stuff in any genre. Or sub genre. In fact I want to hear about anything other than alt/classic/indie. Think I've done that to death some years ago. Might be good idea to have a thread to represent a sub genre in 5 albums? Plenty good specialist custom charts on here though, obviously mine are great.

Interestingly both genres have rather splendid and highly-rated custom charts (ain't that right, Mercury!?), but are rarely discussed on the forums, so there's obviously an interest in both round these parts...

Well, I'm glad everybody thinks there's enough alternative rock and classic rock. I think there's just the right amount of both. I wouldn't want to see any more as much as I like both. I figured that both jazz and classical would be the most popular choices, but I'm a bit surprised 😲 that electronic/techno etc did so well. And I'm very very happy about it. 😄 😁

If I would have remembered to put Reggae and Blues, I bet they would have done well too

Classical.

Many users of this site would shit their pants if they took the time to learn this music and discovered how many incredible masterpieces they're missing out on -- and that almost all of the albums ranked so highly on this site don't hold a candle to them -- and that fundamentally, emotionally and conceptually, much of their favorite music was established by Classical, often well in advance, even dozens or hundreds of years before.

For the past two years my musical interests have been those in country music who are not here anymore and so my vote goes to traditional country music.

Yeah. It had to happen. The album is actually a holdover from the age when there were only hard copies of music. They will go the way of the 45 RPM vinyl single. As soon as a new option is available for buying music, the old formats slip away. But that said, I still like the album as a concept. It has its own artistic merits. Plus they're a lot of fun to collect to many people

i've noticed this too. a lot of artists prefer to release singles and eps and pretty much avoid lps altogether.

i'd like more modern country for sure. and pop, altho every1 is at least a bit poptimist these days... what a tired word at this point honestly!

but then again im not really sure what yalls taste is/based on this thread doesnt seem so poppy at all. i dont keep up w the site enough these days, so idk what needs to be talked about more.

Absolutely. I didn't want to get too deep into the weeds with sub-genres, so I just tried to make an umbrella category that I just called techno/ house /drum and bass, knowing people would just know what I meant without listing all the sub-genres individually. And I called one category electronic dance to distinguish it as the more commercial variety of electronic music. But I love every one of the genres that you named. 😁

Metal, without a doubt! And this post is an example of this, Nu-Metal is just a Metal Sub-genre, what's he doing apart?
But I've stopped worrying about that, we are quite a few users who actually follow the metal here at BEA and I try not to say it when there is some post about the genre because there are really few users that understand on the subject. A few months ago I saw someone recommend his new discovery "Vulgar Display of Power", a very good album that nobody knew !! In the metal world this album is a kind of Beatles' Abbey Road, for example.

I do not heaar Jazz, I do not talk about Jazz! I know that Metal is not for everyone, but the lack of knowledge of some people becomes embarrassing.

I complement you. I am a prog guy but I voted I would like more Jazz because it's the typical genre I want to enjoy more than I do because I know it has lots of spirit and technique behind. I also enjoy blues (actually I do more than Jazz)
