Two Sevens Clash was one of the first reggae albums I ever heard, and it's very good.

Come on, my list wasn't all that bad. They might be by very obvious artists, but who can deny that they are great records. How can you argue with Toots or Jimmy Cliff or Lee Scratch or Peter Tosh? I have two Augustus Pablo albums ,but I didn't want to put any Augustus Pablo song on my list because I thought somebody would yell at me and say " That's not reggae, that's dub!!!". Heh heh. 🤔

Thankfully are we authorised to reply to threads without having a vast culture on the subject discussed 😉

The Magnificent Seven is Disco!!

1/3 rock, 1/3 disco, 1/3 reggae ?

That's pretty accurate, if you think about it.

'Sufferer' by The Kingstonians is a brilliant piece.

I really like "One in Ten" by UB40. That's a classic that deserves more attention. It purveys its message from a really fresh angle and also employs intriguing syncopation in its vocal melody. Of course, in general Bob Marley songs are the finest that the reggae genre has to offer, but "One in Ten" gets high marks for having such a clear identity.

I also really enjoy "My Brain Is Like a Sieve" by Thomas Dolby. Dolby may not come from the type of social background that really breeds reggae's topical character, but I love his unique way of interweaving loud high, brash vocals with such a silky, streamy beat.

Althea and Donna - Uptown Top Ranking
Linton Kwesi Johnson - Forces Of Victory

I also like dub a real lot too but unfortunately I don't know the names of too many specific tracks. But I like all the famous ones like Scientist and King Tubby etc.
