Yeah - been making me think about doing what dihansse is doing (in more seriousness) and going deeper into year charts (likely removing anything from my year charts that is below a 75). To be honest, wikipedia and my studies at university (took some music classes and studied German literature, which therefore studied Wolfram von Eschenbach, Walter von der Vogelweide, Hildegard von Bingen, etc.)

That's a massive project. I think I'd be content with just trying to experience all that music. If I had to rate everything, I'd never start the project.

hehe yeah, I'm doing it pretty low key for the ratings. Probably superficial ratings - meaning one time listen (often, although so far everything has more than 2 listens, and some 6). I'm also limiting my recordings for now at least. Just the most important for each period/genre/what Wikipedia deems most historically impacting. So really just an overview, nothing too crazy... (36 or so albums for music spanning 700 to 1400... so..., but then I probably will be way more intensive in the "common practice era".

Also I've tried 4 times... so wish me luck! haha.

I've gotta say '84 is probably my favorite year of the 80s. You've got Ride The Lightning, Hallowed Ground, Treasure, Double Nickels, Grace Under Pressure, Metal Church, Couldn't Stand The Weather, The Pearl, Don't Break The Oath, all kinds of awesome albums.

Lol that 81 sticks out (well top 10 does). I really have no idea why tbh, some absolute classics that year, from Rush to The Cure and everything in between, pretty much like every year in the 80s.

1987 for me Joshua Tree, Document were career highlights; Marillion’s Clutching at Straws is epic and a personal favourite. Appetite... was one of the best debuts of the decade

I like The Cult before they sold out and betrayed their post-punk sound to become the next AC/DC. Everything after Love is not only a betrayal but a cash grab. The literal definition of selling out. Fuck that shit.

While we're still in the 80's, what's your favourite Cult album? They sort of transitioned a fair bit, toward a heavier sound. They were more style over substance for me, but enjoyable. I have thought LOVE was the sweet spot for me, but I'm liking Dreamtime quite a bit at the moment.

1984 came from 3 or 4 votes behind to create a 4 way tie for first place in the poll. This one has been a lot of fun, and I've been inclined to check out many records I hadn't heard before.

I was surprised to find that the 80s is my second favourite decade after the 70s, according to my top 100 chart. I have loads of 80s albums. I always thought I preferred the 90s. But statistics never lie!! Lol.
