I'd say viking metal comes closest. Grand epic tales of battle and conquest that would make most Klingons proud. Tyr often performs in their native Faroese language, which absolutely rocks for the genre.
as a lame stereotypical american who can't even master his own language, let alone a second one (i've taken two years of spanish and two years of mandarin classes to no avail), i have no real insight into this, but when i listen to non-english albums, i find urdu and french quite attractive, though neither for their "rock and roll" qualities. for that matter, gaelic and italian sound pretty amazing to my ears as well.
I once heard a record sung in old-Sumerian, a language dead for 3000 years. Don’t know how they did it but that was pretty good. And I like my - one - record with Egyptian music.
There are obviously a couple of nice German examples but it is not a Rock 'n' Roll language.

I think German is best for Hard Rock, but for any more sensitive kind of music it just can't sound anything but harsh. It's definitely the best language for metal and just about every other kind of hard music. But it could never be romantic or sensitive for some reason. When you hear a love song in German it just sounds all wrong. But it's definitely the funnest language for music.

To Bobby's defense, my brother visited Edinburgh and said he couldn't understand half of what people were saying and he's got a knack for language (can speak Mandarin).

But I think this is true of a lot of accents. Someone from the deep south (USA) or a really hard Boston/New York accent or many parts of the UK... basically I get lost when folks from the UK say stuff like: "put the wood in the hole would ya?" - (later found out it's a clever way to say shut the door). Sure it's English - but sometimes I get lost on words I'm not used to using in certain contexts or new words altogether.

I also used to work with a lot of people from India. Doing the needful... (also a terrible head hunter once asked how many marbles...)

At Stover75... what's a Scot's take on We Were Promised Jetpacks? My sister showed em to me and they seemed like honest songwriters. But they are young/have that lack of experience to them. Probably not the greatest band out of Scotland, but seemed decent.

BTW the Bay City Rollers were one of the most ripped-off groups ever. They sold millions of records but received hardly any royalties in comparison. A bit like the Shangri-La's did in the 60s before them.

I think the other heavily ripped-off pop band was S Club 7, who sold tonnes of records and even had their own TV show but hardly made any money from it.

Okay the language is English but I love how the Proclaimers sing in a strong Scottish accent.
I imagine that's a little difficult to do naturally its maybe a little forced but I love them anyway. Or maybe they just have a really strong Scottish accent.
When they came along it was refreshing to my Scottish ears.

It certainly made a change from British singers all singing in a faux American accent, something which used to annoy Morrissey too back in the day. And he sings in his English Mancunian (from Manchester) accent too.
The American accent is varied and beautiful btw but if you are Scottish, English, Welsh or Northern Irish please sing in your natural accent. Its beautiful.

Well I think the reason they don't sing in Scottish accents very much is because it's too hard to understand. Even to people who speak English. That's why when they show Scottish movies they have to be subtitled. The first time I saw Trainspotting it didn't have subtitles and I didn't know what the fuck was going on. I didn't understand a word they said. I had to see it again with subtitles so I knew what they were saying. Most singing in Scottish is just too hard to understand.
Except for these dudes here:

Rollin' by Bay City Rollers

Hard to understand??!!
Scottish accents??!
How very dare you!!! LMAO!!!

Ok viewers of Trainspotting may need subtitles if not from Scotland, there are some strong accents in that film.
But nearly all the great Scottish music artists are very good at pronouncing their words well.
Are you telling me you can't understand The Proclaimers??? Sheena Easton??? Alex Harvey???

Rod Stewart has Scottish heritage and everyone understands him.

Then bands like Simple Minds, Belle and Sebastian, Deacon Blue, Big Country etc are all pretty easy to understand, well at least to my ears.

Tell me if its different for you Bobby man.

Btw top marks on you liking the Bay City Rollers. They are ace.

Italian and Spanish are the best languages for music because of all the vowels. What you can do with hard languages with a bunch of consonants like German and Russian is amazing however...

I'm fairly convinced it doesn't matter the language, but the attitude/ability to emotionally connect/interesting musical playgrounds, etc. are more important.

I've never looked up a Sigur Ros song for it's lyrical meaning. Yet the music resonates with me just as well as anything where I do understand the language.

Same with some Spanish speaking albums.
