And you are right, I probably get caught up in things that don't matter.

And yes, nobody disagreed with you and I simply agreed with you and then went on a rant why.

It was just a rant - nothing more/nothing less. And my opinion is far from the only one that matters. Everyone's opinion matters. But not sharing my opinion I suppose defeats the whole purpose of a community thread and hearing other people's opinions, including the Britney Spears fans (heck, I've listened to at least 4 of her albums all the way through and actually like her femme fatale album.

And to be clear, I was speaking to those who think the bands I listed are basically the backstreet boys in any artistic aesthetic discussion. Not the Ace of Base fan. Nothing wrong with some good pop music. And nothing wrong with some experimental music. I suppose it's the devaluing of music "incorrectly" that probably gets on everyone's nerves.

Back to the thread - Nirvana's Smell's Like Teen Spirit intro used to pump up 10 year olds, but the better one was the Territorial Pissings intro - pretty funny.

Also, haters gonna hate. (RE: radiohead fans are the worst, next to Beatles fans, next to U2 fans, next to Pink Floyd fans, next to Led Zeppelin fans - basically the elitists can't accept any form of greatness from these bands because they have mass appeal and ignore the merits of their music). For me - I actually think those types of bands are the best - they have the aesthetic to be... what did I say about R.E.M. that might apply to most of those bands in different ways: "They have that bitter-sweet, pop yet anti-social aesthetic that I absolutely adore." idk- those who can walk that tight rope of pop, yet layers of real artistic/musical meaning usually get my vote... so long as they have the emotional depth, musical prowess, and mental tantalization to do so.

As for Kid A being revolutionary - I agree at the level that it made "alternative rock" kids interested in other forms of music and imo is the main reason why alternative radio stations today can play electronic music. There was a time when "drum machines have no soul" was on the bumper sticker of every Radiohead fan (I never exaggerate).

oh it's great but it's much more epic than mariachi music, as far as I know. there is some minor chord inside this intro that makes it grandiose

Five Years - Bowie
Those drums sound too good to be true. The repetitiveness, hollowness and David's voice on top of that. A blueprint for apocalyptic type of songs/intros, later adopted by so many bands. Also Blackstar, The Bewley Brothers, Quicksand...

And maaaany more. I really think that every song I've rated 100 (about 20 songs) has to have the perfect intro in its own way, the beginning to a song is so important.

Yes, and that false start riff makes it my only favorite New Order song. Fortunately it appears a couple other times throughout the song. And it's awesome.

Check out this ACTUAL false start. It's so great that it must be the reason why they left it in.

Yes, the Moot the Hoople song (I discover it now) is actually a classic, technical false start.
And in the New Order song (which is also my favourite of theirs), you're right, the riff is repeated in the song, but what I like in the intro is the two different synthetizer notes (0:01, and 0:04), the second slightly off-key I think, which creates this impression of false start. Very smart, as usual with this band
