My dad is a musician, a good guitarist, drummer, and singer and has had the music bug since long before I was born. He would be playing music all the time, either recordings or through instruments himself. Since he was the drummer, a lot of the time his bands' practices would be held at my house.

However, music did not click with me until one day my dad picked me up after school in I believe 6th grade. He had Stevie Wonder- The Definitive Collection greatest hits cd playing in his truck. I hoped in his car as Superstition was ending which was perfect timing being the only Stevie Wonder song I had a chance of knowing at the time. On the way home Higher Ground and Living For The City played and I was hooked. Shortly there after I asked my dad if I could borrow that cd and I don't know if he's ever gotten to listen to it by his own choice since then 🤣

That was certainly a "..And I haven't looked back" moment in my life. It was the first time music really spoke to me and it was a world away from the shallow pop radio I had been ingesting for the first decade of my life (especially including 1998-2003, not the best time for pop in my opinion).

Cool story.

Kanye West. I didn't really get into the habit of listening to a WHOLE album until freshman year of high school when Yeezy dropped Dark Fantasy. But after that I didn't start jumping into the underground just yet, I was mostly looking for popular rap albums because I just didn't have the experience in music listening yet. I didn't escape the mainstream pop-o-sphere until junior year when I first heard Kid A by Radiohead (I know it isn't an obscure album by our standards, but coming from only using radio and my classmate's recommendations for new music, this was obscure for me at the time!) and from there I started nailing the indie essentials. Year after year after that, I get more and more underground with my searches. Kanye is the one that technically introduced me into the concept of listening to albums as a whole and, thus, this hobby we all share.

Kanye was always there for me because he's got the fun rap hits that I can put on the aux and satisfy everyone (can't exactly bump shoegaze when I'm hosting a pre-game for a large crowd to go to the clubs) and he's also a good conversation starter. But as I get older, I start to realize how fuckin' brilliant the man is. I've shed some artists lately, main one being Drake (I'm working on a new overall and Take Care is going to drop, unfortunately), but Kanye is still holding on strong.
That's just it. When I was a kid, The Beatles and the Stones were the songs that stuck in my head the most. And it made me want to find even more, so I got into music to seek out more good songs. So that's why I think they're the ones who introduced me to music. But of course not ONLY them.

Britney Spears isn't even the worst pop artist. There are likely hundreds of pop artists worse than her.

I mean she wouldn't make a top 1000 things worth listening to list, but to say she's the worst recording artist ever, eh, I don't think so.

Rush made me a full fledged music fanatic.

Years later, Bach, Beethoven, Haydn and Dvorak made me a classical freak.

Years later, Buddy Guy turned me into a blues aficionado.

Years after that, Wes Montgomery, Lee Morgan, and Art Blakey led me to jazz fanaticism.

I think Britney Spears SUCKS she is terrible that said I feel The Black Eyed Peas and Gwen Stefani are actually worse than she is. I do not care how hard she works it is irrelevant to art in my opinon. it may be admirable and a good quality but it doesn't mean she made anything that moved me. I think her thin voice is among the worst in music history. She constantly tries to sound like she is about to orgasm and its just damn annoying to me. I am sorry but Ed Sheeran is no where near the worst artist of all time the kid is actually mad talented. he doesn't really make my kind of music but in this day and age to make it as far as he has and be really average looking with no gimmick he must have talent.. It is not really my cup of tea style wise but he has some substance.
Britney is one of the hardest working artists of her generation. She was able to sustain her career and make a powerful comeback after a very tragic and very public personal meltdown. She made fun, catchy, and danceable music for teenagers, and has managed to stay relevant after two decades in the music industry. She was, and is an icon for the generation that grew up with her.

There are far worse major artists who have come and gone before and after Britney, including Limp Bizkit, Maroon 5, Chris Brown, Iggy Azalea, and Meghan Trainor. I could go on with even worse artists.

The first band I ever loved was probably Guns n Roses after listening to Appetite for Destruction. I started getting into more classic rock after that, and fell in love with other artists like Simon and Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac, and Meatloaf. My love for classic rock became a love for alt-rock after getting into bands like The Killers, RHCP, and Green Day.

This all led up to me listening to Ok Computer by Radiohead, which totally rocked my world and opened my eyes to a myriad of more obscure and more challenging artists that I now love as well.

There are loads, considering Britney's actually put out a good album or two ("Blackout" is unashamedly impressive dance/electro-pop). Try Meghan Trainor or perhaps Ed Sheeran

Blackout was the one that had Gimme More right? Because if it is, I got to see if there were other joints I like. Because I love Gimme More.

But I wouldnt say I took these artists seriously or was listening to them for much more than a cheap hook. It was mainly because they were the next big thing on MTV and kids at my school were into them.
Pearl Jam (Ten, Vs, Vitalogy, No Code) Nirvana (Nevermind, In Utero, Unplugged), Soundgarden (Badmotorfinger, Superunknown) Smashing Pumpkins (Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie) and Guns N Roses (Use Your Illusion 1 & 2, Appetite For Destruction) were all favorites in the early 90s-to-1994 and the first that come to mind in my interest in Rock as an art form. Shortly after, with those as my bedrock, Live's Throwing Copper was probably the first rock album that I considered a complete masterpiece, and at that time would've ranked as my "Greatest Album of All Time". Shortly thereafter I discovered Classical music, which changed my life (musically/in relation to art evaluation).
