Theme from M.A.S.H. (Suicide is Painless) and Cheers were the best ones from my youth. I have never seen the show with The Monkees but I really like the song which was supposed to be the theme song.

Best are Persuaders and Mission Impossible.

And Get Smart.

Of course, if you like a show you start liking the music sooner or later. I could not stand Sopranos or Games of Thrones at the beginning, but now I find them very fitting.

The best German theme songs, if anyone is interested:

Dem Täter auf der Spur
Der Kommissar
Die Gentlemen bitten zur Kasse https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_kNQ9kkG7s

Good shout on World In Action. Personally (and with my nostalgic specs on recalling the halcyon days of kids TV as a pre-teen) either of these would be right up there (the first one still sends shivers down my spine):

But the winner for me has got to be...

Now if you're talking a theme that wasn't written specifically for the purpose this would be a strong contender:

Good shout Jimmy

I also liked the theme from Supergran by Billy Connolly!

Yes. Almost all of them from old detective shows were fantastic. Just think of all the great ones.

Yeah, you can dance to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as well as Inpector Gadget. And I did when I was a kid. In fact, somebody even made an extended dance mix of it. Everyone loves Inspector Gadget song.

The theme tune to a British show staring tony Curtis and Roger Moore called the pursuaders. I think that it was performed by the Jeff love orchestra. Classic

Difficult question given television is such a vast medium that includes animation, live action serials, and so forth. There's a lot that comes to mind but since its 10am I'll lead with this:

Also anything by KPM library guys. If you have an interest in TV themes of the 70s or sample based music, then you should know about them. They produced hundreds of well known themes, including Dave Allen at Large, Grandstand, Wimbledon, superstars and many more.
Arena is a good one and another theme that is one of my faves that was plucked from an already issued record is Nantucket Sleigh ride by Mountain, used for Weekend World.

Those guys must have been the Mike Post of the UK. He was the king of theme songs in the seventies and eighties. Not only were his themes quite good and catchy instrumentals, several of them were huge top 10 hits. Deservedly so. They were usually police or detective shows, with a couple of comedies thrown in.

Clannad were masters of the moody, atmospheric theme tune in the 80s and early 90s. I can’t ever remember watching Harry’s Game as a kid but the theme still reasonates:

Speaking of Irish themes, Divine Comedy’s “Songs Of Love” being used for Father Ted would be another personal favourite.
