yeah, reason and fl studio are very much loop based.. so full on sequencers like logic are much more powerful

i like logic a lot but use sonar myself (much more powerful audio wise), but if i'm doing anything 'urban' (i.e anything without live drums) i'll use fl studio as a vst plugin and program the drums in that using samples, then record everything else in sonar.. which is actually what i've been doing all day

I don't recall what we used in the intro to electronic music class I had in college (back in late '97 anyway). I do recall we used Macs, though.

Remember the principles of layering and variation if you want a good result. That's all the help I can offer...my composition sucked because I'm musically lacking 😉

Reason would be a good place to start indeed. Either that or Fruityloops (FL Studio). The sounds that come with it are rather generic and flat sounding, but there are plenty of sample packs and virtual instruments (VST plugins) that can be acquired additionally. Having said that, I'm sure you'll be impressed with the native sounds to begin with and instantly gratified by the ease of use.

Let me know how you get on and post an mp3 when possible!

I'm interested in having a go at an electronica song and from what i've read it seems as though "Reason" is the best software. I have a few questions:

Does anyone have any expierence with this software?

Where can i get it legally for free?

If i can't get it free legally where should i go?
