I didn't want to mention Space Cowboy at the risk of coming off like I was complaining that my nomination lost, but I definitely agree that it's easily better than both of these songs (as is She Works Out Too Much). No frills indie/power pop seems to be doing really well in this tournament despite not being on my radar at all during 2018. Maybe it's a genre that has wide appeal and doesn't give anyone reasons to vote against it? Personally I've listened to that Hinds song twice now and I still couldn't tell you what it sounds like.

No kidding. I'm still shocked that they got past Kacey. Kacey is so (deservedly) popular rn. And half her album is comprised of perfect pop songs for the radio. She really should have owned this 2018 singles tourney.

That Superchunk album is surprisingly good though and their best since the 90s.

Both great songs that got my vote in the first round. I liked this type of music back then so why wouldn't I like it now. Hinds gets the edge for its positive vibe.

When comparing both albums I would go for Superchunk and also this individual track has a great guitar sound but one way or another I think the hooks on this Hinds track are super great so I go for that one.

I'm not in love with either of these, and I'd take the Beths song to either of them. Superchunk is a bit more exhilarating though, so going with that.

Surprisingly it's the band that started in the late 80s that sound like they're actually making music in 2018. Just a really strong foot-stomp of an indie-rock anthem, The Club is fun but again sounds way too mid-00s for it's own good (though maybe closer than the constant 20th century throwback in this tournament? who knows. Voting for Superchunk).
