Really like both!!! The Playboi Carti album gets a little monotonous by the end but its first half of the album is pretty invigorating.

A battle between an artist who has a punk edge in a non-punk format vs. an artist who has a punk format with a non-punk edge.

My opinions on both of these records haven't changed much since I first heard them last year.

Playboi Carti:

Beats ++++
Flow & Energy +
Filler/Pacing/Sameyness --
Lyrics --

This is pretty good, but there's a much better album buried inside. This should have been cut down to about half the length. It gets monotonous, even with the features. And yeah, it's often bad lyrically.

Tierra Whack:

Great in just about every aspect. Production is out of this world. Great flows, lyrics, and vocals. Good sense of humor and actually brings more energy than Carti, but in a different way. There are pros and cons to the unique format, but on net, it's value added.

It's funny how it takes a minute to understand shit. This Carti album now makes sense to me, where it didn't before. I am still too old for it, however.

I remember Lethal saying something about maybe feeling too old for Playboy awhile back despite still enjoying it, and I no question feel too old for this record. Have to admit I just really don't get a lot of Trap music, but again maybe I just missed the boat. Tierra Whack wasn't anything shattering but it gets my vote here.

I go with Tierra.

Carti I will agree that there is something quite admirable and playful with his record. However I do have more gripes than positives. For one, the biggest issue is that once you realize the formula of the album it becomes quite noticable. Where each track brings out an interesting sound to get the listener to get intrigue. But then just adds the typical hi hats that gets somewhat stale after having this decade over run by other trap albums. I also want to point out that a good majority of these guests on this album kinda blend in out of another where I wish they were more distinct. Skepta and oddly enough Nicki Minaj are the few that make there songs more engaging. But the idea of blending in also revolves around the music. So I do like it, but Carti and his crew really need to give us more variety. Especially compared to it's competitor.

Grade:65

Tierra on the other hand was so good. Like my only complaint for this album is that I wish it was a little longer. But to me that argument is the definition of a double edge sword due to that there is a lot to love. From the variety in the musical department to how Tierra is such an entertaining individual. I do want to go more in detail for this album, but I could see this as a grower for 2018.

Deffo Carti. Tierra Whack is nice, but also fussy and a little self-satisfied, whereas Carti's joyous adlib-rap over Bourne's off-kilter, maximalist, sugar rush trap is full of life.
