Paste's song list is kinda just like a slightly better remix of Pitchforks, with insane similarity to the point I think they took P4k's list into consideration 🤣 I'd give it the edge up though. Archie, Marry Me up so high gives it lots of bonus points.

What's with everyone's Kendrick pick for the decade being 'Alright'? 😕 I don't think I'd be pushing it by saying he's released at least 15 songs this decade I prefer to it.

I think this approach, of the big dogs swooping in to make sure that the list is a reflection of what they consider Pitchfork to represent, is massively reductive and harming the genuineness of their lists in general. We want Pitchfork's albums of the decade, not a revised rehash of safe bets that the higher-ups think will get more hits for ad revenue.

It's a shame, since when you allow lists like these to be wide-ranging and collaborative (as Pitchfork used to) you get treated to an underground gem or two that a couple of staff writers put high on their personal picks, but maybe didn't get massive exposure at the time of release. Retrofitting artists that the editors consider "culturally important" to a large amount of people just seems like cheap bid for relevancy, when the majority of people who visit the site regularly come to be pleasantly surprised by stuff that may have fallen through the cracks, not to be told that Rihanna and Drake each made one of the best albums of the decade.

Just my two cents anyway...

Ok. That's it! I'm making my own damned 2010s list. One that's predicated on growing up on 70s Hard Rock, Metal & Punk instead. I actually like both the Paste & Pitchfork lists well enough but the dearth of ass-kicking rock sucks.

Please send me recs to help in this quest. I welcome a group effort on this as well. Cheers & up the irons! \m/

So, I tried making my 2010s chart last night before I ever looked at whatever this was, and I currently have about 27 artists/albums that are the same between Pitchfork's 200 and my 84. Although, I'm making my chart a little more broad in terms of appeal for the 2010s. I tried to think more of a mass audience, instead of my specific tendencies, which is where some of the similar albums come from.

No Drake though.

And why 'Beyondless' for the Iceage album?

So many questions.

Not sure what I expected, but I'm bummed to not see Peaking Lights or Gonjasufi. I would've voted Street Halo or Kindred for Burial, and Channel Orange over Blonde. It's nice to see Jlin, DJ Rashad, Kelela, and Shabazz Palaces. No Andy Stott tho??? No Ariel Pink?

I feel like in these Irony challenged days I need to re-iterate that the above post was a bit of a joke, even if admittedly I'm having a tough time discussing certain albums these days with people who I tend to agree with on social issues, considering I was literally called a misogynist cause I said Lana Del Rey's album was very good if not quite great, despite saying absoluting nothing relating to her gender. As much as I dismiss the whole Anti-SJW/PC tirades unfortunately there are some mildly valid points to be made in the criticisms, despite the icky places they may be coming from.

Anyways, yeah the list is just boring, that's it. Pitchfork is the settled old timers in the Music Blog stage and it both feels extremely safe and a little too try-hard to appeal to what's popular these days... while of course seemingly switching course on albums they praised highly earlier in the decade that aren't as popular these days. It's nothing you can't see looking up Metacritic or main Spotify playlists. Thank u, next

Or actually not that hard if you click on the link. Says they asked staff writers to vote in their favourites and that they then took an epic six months to argue about what goes where 😲 ( with the editors having the final say)

If I remember right, the list was determined by asking readers to list their 10 best albums from the 2010s (that's how they came up with the song list too), so this isn't really "Pitchfork's" list as it is their reader's list.

I'm fine with it. Obviously I disagree with it, but I think there are some great shoutouts in the hundreds, and it was fun to go through the list and remember where I was when I listened to some of these albums like 7-8 years ago

Hmmm. We now have this discussion in three separate places 😜

I've no major beefs with individual album choices though I was also annoyed to see two 1975 albums in there. Just seems with this one like Pitchfork play it too safe and got too hung up on certain artists. I'm surprised after how good they did with the 60s and 80s lists.

It's hard to figure out how they rank the albums as well. Is it a committee? Do they vote? Do they use Afterhours's criteria for art? I've honestly no clue.
