The second best Nelly of the 2000s get my vote here. Both are real nostalgic for me, but I only ever choose to listen to 'I'm Like a Bird' these days.

I get what you’re saying, Peaches song is definitely more universal. Maybe it is just me associating the song with the era it came from, but I still think that I’d guess from which year the song was based on some production choices.

Oddly, I don't think the Peaches track sounds dated. If that was released today, I think it would fly. Maybe a sliiiight tweak in production, but otherwise.

Both sound dated to me, but both have the unmistakable sound of the 00s. Nostalgia is also a big factor here I guess. I’m gonna vote for I’m Like a Bird cause it sounds more like the aughts than Peaches.

Between Like a Bird and My Immortal, I'm starting to wonder if a tournament just full of biggest 2000s hits wouldn't be more fun. Teenage Dirtbag was released in 2000, you know?

Anyway, Peaches. Probably the only song of hers that does something for me. Fun as shit.

Yeah, it's pretty funny and when I saw this match up I also thought yes this is actually a good fair fight. Like both fighters are in the same weight division or something. It's like a battle between good and evil for the soul of BEA. Set in Canada.

I thought there should be at least one song you can hear on pop idol in this contest. I'm like a Bird is probably the most timeless pop song of the decade and is just pure great songwriting. Fuck the Pain Away is a great combination of funny, annoying and hugely original though. Fun fact: it was the main inspiration for Radiohead's 15 Step apparently.

This is genuinely my favourite match up in the contest by a country mile. Got to hand it to the Chief for bringing his A game on this one too. I'm a good boy though so I voted for Furtado.

Agreed. One of those rare matchups that features 2 of the most instantly recognizable and inescapable tracks of the decade.

Easy vote for Peaches , but enjoyed the nostalgia of hearing Nelly Furtado for the first time in well over a decade.

The NF song has quite the catchy melody... too bad about her voice, especially the forced nasality in the verses.
Peaches was too repetitious to take seriously, but it was at least kind of fun so it gets my vote, at least for this round.

Anyways this definitely is the most... entertaining first round matchup. One that vaguely r&b/dave matthews band pop-hippie adult contemporary jam and the other an intentionally crude, abrasive electro-clash raw-dog jam. I donno the fact that i hear that Bird song nearly every day at work and that it reminds me heavily of the early 00s in a not-good way, I think I'm going with the tournament's seulement representation of the Lost in Translation OST.
