I had similar issues with Crushing I had with the Weyes Blood record, mainly that it just peaked way too early and after the first few tracks I just lost interest more and more with each number. I think she's quite talanted with a lot of potential, but as a whole I found the album a bit dissapointing, especially on repeat listens.

Vanishing Twin wasn't astounding in any way but it does have an attractive sound and geniunely intriguing ideas, and overall I just found it more consistient and stayed interested till the end, so narrowly a vote for TAOI.

After a re-listen to both albums I'm bumping Crushing up my 2019 chart a bit and it will be getting my vote here. Kudos to Vanishing Twin though for making my 2019 chart - after listening to all the albums in this tourney now The Age Of Immunology is the only album I hadn't heard before to make my top 100 of 2019.

I got serious Stereolab vibes from large parts of The Age Of Immunology. And while it doesn't approach their musical peak, it captures a lot of the elements that make them a great band. This is definitely more psychedelic than any album they've recorded though, so it definitely reads as more of an inspiration than a rip-off (as others have pointed out online, there's also a fair bit of overlap with Broadcast's sound). Can't say I'm on board with every track, but the peaks are gorgeous and it's a reasonably consistent listen overall. Also talk about a prescient album title...

Crushing is a re-listen, and it grew on me substantially enough to re-enter my 2019 top 100 from my honorable mentions. Jacklin does a very good job of making an emotionally resonant breakup album. It starts out strong, as Body is a great song and the album highlight. The rest of the first half is captivating, even though it doesn't quite measure up. Unfortunately, the second half brings a bit of a decrease in quality and the album drags a little.

Vanishing Twin ultimately wins my vote here.

Just spun The Age of Immunology again, and gotta say it grew on me tremendously. I still have the same problems with it (it sounds uniform, synthetic at times and the highlights are not as good as just the overall mood and sound), but the production is really something. Perfect for summer nights, and I’m so glad I gave it another chance. I’m not gonna change my vote though, Crushing sound just as fresh and intriguing as when I first heard it.

I like crushing quite a bit. Wasn't really feeling the Vanishing Twins, but I guess you can't like everything.

Oh maaannnn this is a tough one. Both of these albums are excellent, but I think I have to slightly lean Vanishing Twin. Really tough matchup though

I really like Julia Jacklin, been listening to her for a while, but it's more vocally and lyrically that I like this album for, rather than musically. Whereas this is the first I've heard of Vanishing Twin, but it's right up my alley musically. I'm tempted to vote for Vanishing Twin on first impression but I am going to wait a while and see if I get time to listen to both again to be sure.

Crushing is an improvement on Julia Jacklin's fantastic debut. It's one of my favourite indie records of the year and decade and it gets my vote. Tried listening to Age of Immunology at least 3 times last year, but wasn't thrilled by it at all. It's quite pleasant sounding, but that's about it unfortunately. Maybe I ought to give it another shot.
