And CA Dreamin, your list is tallied 😄 (... you moved a film into the top 10 I wasn't expecting to be there, so I have to quickly whip up a poster though... 8-[)

The downtime kiiiinda messed up my schedule, but not by a lot. I have to go run an errand, but it shouldn't be too long. The list will be posted in about 2-2.5 hours 😄

The way I make decade lists is I first make 10 mini lists for each year. Then I pull from those lists to fill out the decade. Did all the mini lists and got to around 25ish on the decade, but I ran out of time before I had to leave for work. So I'll have to finish it later tonight after I get home (on my break right now, writing this post from my phone). It's gonna be in the wee hours of the night by the time I get home and finish, like between 12 and 1 Pacific, so even later for you. Don't lose any sleep waiting but it'll be posted when you wake up. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience.

All good. Only takes a couple minutes to tally, it won't delay anything.

Thanks for the invitation, Hayden. I haven't seen most of these in a long time so I had some trouble ranking this weird mix of fiction, documentary and experimental films. The two films I watched because of this poll that made the list - 'Salaam Cinema' and 'Videograms of a Revolution' - would make an interesting double feature as they're both, among other things, explorations about the duplicitous role of the camera in shaping and engendering truth/reality. Didn't get to see A Brighter Summer Day, Claire Denis' Beau Travail, Kieslowski's trilogy, nor Through the Olive Trees, which I bet would all have had good chances of making the cut.

I too, thought we were so close to a new boom before covid. The quality goes up as the opression, and almost every good film recently has been political. We'll see what that will lead us. We have almost half of the theaters opened and two of the major festivals have been made even in dire situations. Antalya Film Festival showed some improvement despite covid and that's because in the last mayoral elections the city was won back by the opposition and that changed the dynamics. Two political films dominated the festival. We see a surge in female acknowledgement here too, both festivals awarded best director awards to females and Antalya awarded best film to a female-directed film called Ghosts. We are waiting at least a couple of festivals hits to hit the theaters this year but not sure. And the majority of the filmmakers have been avoiding streaming as streaming films were deemed ''not cinema!'' by many. The main awards organisator, the film critics association of turkey said that they're only going to award ''real films'' released in theaters, not on streaming services back in february but they had to postpone their awards ceremony like five months and streamed their awards show online! 😁 😁

So things seem dire but hopeful at the same time. That goes for a lot of countries right now i believe.

Based on the message that came up, I also thought the site might be down for a couple days. All the best to AM for the behind the scenes re-up going on (things seems to be working perfectly fine though).
