I've almost always found Alvvways annoying for some reason. Their production choices/vibe just felt way to canned most times.

This song lyrically met my depressive state lately, so it wins.

Natalie Prass though last time won for me... tough call. Lush vocals/arrangement and funky vibe typically I dig. This time it felt like cheap somehow. Don't worry, my favorite music sometimes feels cheap to me.

I don't really stan artists, but if I did Alvvays would be one of the first in line. Not My Baby is an excellent song, though it's not one of my personal favorites of theirs. I considered nominating In Undertow for this tournament.

Also, s/t >> Antisocialites, although both are outstanding.

As I said before, Short Court Style is a bop, but here it's no match for Not My Baby.

Voted for Alvvays, that album is a pretty large leap from their debut (which is also great) and this is one of the better tracks on it.

I think I liked Alvvays more in the first half of the decade. Prass hasn't made a front to back great album yet but Short Court Style is a wonderful track. Love Prass' husband/drummer on this cut too.

To be honest, my selection for this tournament was kind of lazy. For one of my other nominations I chose Berman because I had been listening to Purple Mountains and Silver Jews lately and I had been in that kind of mood when nominating. With this one I remembered when we were doing the previous (2010-2014) tournament, two Alvvays songs were nominated, and I could only think about how much better Not My Baby was.

If I did nominations again, I'd choose differently, but despite this very unenthusiastic post, I do still think it's just about a perfect (dream?) pop tune, easily their best. Every little thing in this, every instrument does something that helps make it special.

Sorry Jure, but I’ve never had a lot of time for Alvvays, which is odd as they should be right up my street.

Whereas I’ve loved Natalie’s work since Gowi dropped one of her tracks in Plug many a moon ago.
