Great post. Everyone brings their own experiences to what they listen to as well. So hearing about music from someone else’s experience should always add a little to someone’s understanding of how or what the music makes people feel. Even the unique contextualization perspective of when something came out.

It IS new information. Whether it’s interesting or worth investing the time to learn is a different story and will be unique to the person.

I’d like to think we provide an interesting listen to both people who may not even know of some or many of the albums (not the BEA audience) but also to people who do.

Even if you’d rage at our evaluation of the joshua tree vs Graceland matchup......:)

As bizarre at it sounds given that I'm posting on a list-making website called "Best Ever Albums", I really have zero interest in listening to people further discuss those albums which have already been discussed more than any others. There is basically nothing new that can be said about them at this point, and most people with a degree of interest in pop music have probably already nailed their flag to the mast when it comes to their opinions on them. I love a large number of these records, but I also find them inherently uninteresting, due to their ubiquity in pop culture.

Good luck with the podcast though, man. Keep us updated if you ever decide to branch out beyond discussing the quote unquote classics.

thanks. i do understand your point of course. all you're really getting in the end is just personal anecdotes, reflections and opinions on the albums, not some truth.

to be honest, the podcast has forced me to go back and revisit albums that i rarely have been listening to for years. because most of them are so familiar. i mostly now listen to newer alternative and metal, without really committing to full albums. it's been interesting for me to go back to these albums after being away from them for a while.

And I just read the objectivity thread. Good points in there. And I think it’s great to have multiple perspectives. If people either absolutely love an album or hate an album, it’s helpful to know that perspective, as opposed to it just averaging out to average. So cross referencing gives broader perspective on albums. I’d want to listen to see which camp I fall into, instead of dismissing it because it’s “average”.

But yes, the popularity trap is also real. So is groupthink. And we all are biased by it.

Anyway, the podcast itself is fueled by my brothers obsessive knowledge of the history of music (again, see the book he wrote), and these recent episodes of album tournament are just our individual reflections on each album, with majority rules determining what album moves to the next round.
