This thread has gone off-topic, so closing it. First and foremost this a music website focused on the best ever albums. This site doesn't care which religion (or not) people follow and this sort of debate should go in the Politics & Religion forum.
For today, yes. But in more Christian times, this statement itself would have been profanity. And in the very near future it won’t stack up either. The obscene and profane will not be decided by either human subjectivity or the word of God, but rather by big data. This is the religion that BEA should actually be worried about. The new one coming out of silicone valley.

Might be a good thread-deletion candidate. 😄

Still, "obscene" and "profane" are inherently subjective terms, whether you can admit it or not. Also, you did sort of dodge the question of whether or not you treat cleanly-worded lyrical criticism of Judeo-Christian religious precepts as "obscene" or "profane" on that basis alone. Hopefully you don't, but as long as you dodge or avoid the question, some of us will strongly suspect that you do - and many of us will continue to avoid the threads that you start, as a result. But hey, as long as you don't mind being offended on occasion, it's all good, right?
No. I'm not dropping it. Because you STILL don't get it. There's a difference between expressing your opinions and being a jerk about it...which is what you have been. You over and over insist on telling us that our music is vile and obscene, but you don't get that that's wrong (and oh so un-Christian). You flaunt that article that is nothing but telling us we're wrong and sinful, and you see nothing wrong with that because you seem to think that if you're backed by religion, you can do no wrong. Your article is offensive tripe, and your refusal to see that others take offense not only to that, but also to YOU telling us over and over that you think what we listen to is obscene and vile.

Have your freaking opinion. I don't care. But maybe at this point you could keep it to yourself. We all know that you find what most of us listen to here offensive. You don't have to keep telling us. We really don't find it relevant...but we DO find you telling us over and over that we are wrong to be insulting.

And your article is a pile of offensive garbage, written by a closed minded ass. That you don't get why it's offensive says a lot about what you are.

A good example of what I'm talking about is Cardi B's "WAP" I can't see why anyone would find it offensive that I think a song like that is vulgar and vile, because it IS vulgar and vile. And songs with obscene and profane lyrics are obviously obscene and profane. Why would anyone be offended by me or anyone else saying that songs with obscene and profane are vile and vulgar? But anyway, I'm just expressing my musical opinions here, as was the guy in the article. His article was titled "Why I Prefer Christian Music". It was not titled "Everyone Should Prefer Christian Music." Maybe we should just drop this subject. You obviously don't want people who think obscenities and profanities are obscene and profane (which they are, That's why they're called "obscenities" and "profanities") to express their opinions.

No, I'm not sorry I started the thread. We wouldn't be having this discussion if I hadn't started this thread. And of course blasphemous and / or satanic music is included in the stuff I don't listen to. But the thing about that is it just so happens that I also hate the sound of the music that has lyrics that too. So, I wouldn't like this type of music, even if it had lyrics that I like because I just hate the sound of it.

So...you really are closed to listening to almost everything. You won't listen to Ariana Grande because of one song. You don't like a band like XTC, even though there are probably thousands of Christian bands that sound just like them. You don't like electronic dance music. You don't like metal. You refuse to listen to any lyrics that might challenge your immovable Christian mindset. I'm guessing that any song that has the word god in it that doesn't sing praises to your lord is an automatic no for you as well. So, your world is what, Christian and gospel, a few country songs that don't cross your thin lyrical lines, and a few R&B songs that are rated explicitly G. You hate this. You won't listen to that. I feel bad that you have such narrow boundaries and such a closed mind for music.

Why should we contribute to a thread like this when all you can do is tell everyone you don't like what they listen to?

You do get finding things offensive, though. You won't listen to anything you MIGHT find offensive, and you don't want to be exposed to it. And yet, when you post an article that someone is offended by, you don't care.

Got it.

Secular songs I listen to that I've shared on the "Cover Songs: Side By Side" thread. And this is only one thread:

1. Midnight Train to Georgia - Cissy Houston / Gladys Knight & The Pips
2. Born to Lose - Ella Fitzgerald / Ted Daffan's Texans
3. Suspicious Minds - Bettye Swann / Mark James
4. The Thrill Is Gone - Aretha Franklin / Roy Hawkins
5. Unchained Melody - Al Green / Les Baxter, His Chorus and Orchestra
6. This Old Heart of Mine - Bettye Swann / The Isley Brothers
7. That's the Way Love Is - The Cox Family / The Isley Brothers
8. Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying - Gloria Estefan / Louise Cordet
9. You're No Good - Betty Everett
10. I've Got to Use My Imagination - Gladys Knight & The Pips / The Persuasions
11. Rainy Night in Georgia - David Ruffin / Tony Joe White
12. Crying Over You - Trijntje Oosterhuis / Little Willie John
13. I Wish it Would Rain - Cissy Houston / The Temptations
14. Runaway - Bonnie Raitt / Del Shannon
15. Those Memories of You - Dailey & Vincent / Bill Monroe

So far I've posted versions of 15 secular songs in that thread and versions of only one gospel song, "How I Got Over" - Mahalia Jackson / Clara Ward / Aretha Franklin. And this is just one thread. But none of these songs are vulgar, vile, obscene or blasphemous. Is that OK with you, or do you insist that I should listen to stuff that I find offensive, repulsive and vile?

Exactly what I pointed out earlier...your tastes are Christian and gospel, a handful of country songs that don't offend you, and older R&B that, again, doesn't offend you. Boring as hell, but whatever.

Yes. It's perfectly fine that you don't listen to music that you find offensive, vulgar and vile. I really don't give a crap about that. What I DO care about is that you use that guideline as a way of putting down everyone else here for not sharing your Christian values. Which is EXACTLY what you are doing by calling everything not in your narrow window of acceptability offensive, repulsive and vile (great words, btw), and ESPECIALLY by posting that ridiculously preaching article telling us all that we are wrong for what we are listening to, and that we all should turn our listening to songs that praise your lord. In other words...don't preach to us. That's not what ANY of us (outside of you) is here for.

Got it?

I have said repeatedly that I'm sorry you don't like the article. The 15 songs (16 now) in that thread is just a sample of what I listen to. It's not all I listen to. And I said that anything with an explicit lyrics sticker is not for ME. I didn't say that anyone here should not be listening to it. You're reading a lot into it that I never said. And you should not be offended that I consider music with content that is offensive to me to be offensive, repulsive and vile. I'm hardly the only one. There are many of us. If you can't see that that's how this kind of content comes across to people like me, then you have no understanding at all of those who are different from you. There are plenty of us. I didn't say anyone here had to agree with me, but it's my opinion and the opinion of many others too. Just because something is mainstream doesn't mean everyone finds it acceptable. I don't see why you should be offended by that.

I get that you said you're sorry I don't like the article. That's not the point. (God. I HATE having to explain myself over and over to people who don't comprehend). The point is that the ARTICLE IS OFFENSIVE AND YOUR CONTINUOUS COMMENTS ABOUT HOW THE MUSIC WE LISTEN TO IS VULGAR AND VILE IS INSULTING (WHICH MIRRORS EXACTLY WHAT YOUR STUPID ARTICLE SAYS), AND THAT YOU DON'T WANT TO BE EXPOSED TO MUSIC YOU FIND OFFENSIVE, BUT THAT YOU HAVE NO PROBLEM POSTING AND DEFENDING CONTENT THAT OTHERS FIND OFFENSIVE. IS IT OKAY TO YOU BECAUSE OF ITS CHRISTIAN NATURE? OR DO YOU REALLY, DESPITE BEING SO CHRISTIAN, NOT GIVE A CRAP ABOUT WHAT OTHERS FEEL?

I'm sure I find some of the music people listen to here to be vulgar and vile, but not all of it. I haven't said that everything people here listen to is vulgar and vile.
My question for you would have to be, can you listen to a piece of music that criticizes Judeo-Christian precepts without using any “vile language” or other superficially objectionable content whatsoever, without getting angry or upset and ultimately dismissing it as bad music?

It just appears that, with threads like this one, you're beginning to abandon the pretense of posting opinions/recommendations about music in favor of straight-up religious proselytizing. It also doesn't help that you're consistently off-topic, since virtually all of your threads are about songs and types of songs, whereas this website is supposed to be focused on albums. That might seem like a distinction without a difference to you, but if so, I'm afraid you're probably in the minority on that score.

Also, I'd assume you treat any direct (and possibly indirect) criticism of conservative Christianity as "blasphemous," but do you believe it's impossible to be "blasphemous" without being obscene? Or do you see those two terms as functionally equivalent? It seems like you do, but that would be the very height of closed-mindedness, and if you're dismissing music entirely on that basis... well then, we have a clear cognitive-dissonance situation where we all think you're "really missing out!" while you think the rest of us are monsters.

No, I don't think you're monsters. I just don't see why @Romanelli seems to be so upset that I don't listen to stuff that I find offensive. As, I said, I'm not upset if people here don't listen to Christian / Gospel music. I don't see why someone would care that much about what I don't listen to. And I focus mainly on songs because there are so many albums out there that only have one or two tracks that I like. It is one thing I wish were different on this site. I wish we could add singles. You asked a question about what lyrics I find unacceptable to me and I gave an answer. How is that religious proselytizing? And yes, there are some songs that are blasphemous without having obscene and profane lyrics.

You don't comprehend. I'm not upset about what you listen to. I'm upset that the article you posted is offensive, and is insulting to pretty much everyone here, and you don't care, despite the fact that basically everything about music seems to offend you. Which comes across as you saying that we are all wrong for what we choose to listen to. Very typical devout Christian behavior...but judge not, right?

Look. You want to be closed minded and have basically zero variety in your music tastes? I don't care. What I do care about is that you announce it by telling everyone not what you like, but by telling us all that the music WE listen to is offensive. And then using an article supposedly about lyrics that's really nothing more than some preacher telling us that the music we listen to is offensive and that we should all be listening to Christian music instead to drive home your point, and following that up with more of you telling us that the music we listen to is offensive. Your refusal to acknowledge that you're doing that is frustrating and irritating.

My question for you would have to be, can you listen to a piece of music that criticizes Judeo-Christian precepts without using any “vile language” or other superficially objectionable content whatsoever, without getting angry or upset and ultimately dismissing it as bad music?

Link

My question for you would have to be, can you listen to a piece of music that criticizes Judeo-Christian precepts without using any “vile language” or other superficially objectionable content whatsoever, without getting angry or upset and ultimately dismissing it as bad music?

Got it.

I told you I was sorry you didn't like the article. And I said, among other things Ariana Grande has a blasphemous song. I have other reasons that I am not a fan of hers. And no, it's way more than a few secular songs I listen to. I told you, that I actually listen to a good bit of secular music, but I'm very selective. You expect me to listen to blasphemous and / or satanic music? I think that's unreasonable of you to expect people like me to listen to that kind of stuff. Why would you expect people like me to listen to stuff that insults or mocks their God? If you can't understand why people like me wouldn't want to listen to that kind of stuff then that is closed-minded on your part. People like me don't want that kind of stuff going into our minds. And why would you take offense that I don't want to listen to it? I don't take offense if people don't want to listen to Christian / Gospel music. That is fine with me.
