This thread has gone off-topic, so closing it. First and foremost this a music website focused on the best ever albums. This site doesn't care which religion (or not) people follow and this sort of debate should go in the Politics & Religion forum.

For today, yes. But in more Christian times, this statement itself would have been profanity. And in the very near future it won’t stack up either. The obscene and profane will not be decided by either human subjectivity or the word of God, but rather by big data. This is the religion that BEA should actually be worried about. The new one coming out of silicone valley.

Still, "obscene" and "profane" are inherently subjective terms, whether you can admit it or not. Also, you did sort of dodge the question of whether or not you treat cleanly-worded lyrical criticism of Judeo-Christian religious precepts as "obscene" or "profane" on that basis alone. Hopefully you don't, but as long as you dodge or avoid the question, some of us will strongly suspect that you do - and many of us will continue to avoid the threads that you start, as a result. But hey, as long as you don't mind being offended on occasion, it's all good, right?

I disagree with the article you posted. Are you really not smart enough to see that it's offensive to everyone here? What is wrong with you? You either don't understand anything I say to you, or you're a troll.

No. I'm not dropping it. Because you STILL don't get it. There's a difference between expressing your opinions and being a jerk about it...which is what you have been. You over and over insist on telling us that our music is vile and obscene, but you don't get that that's wrong (and oh so un-Christian). You flaunt that article that is nothing but telling us we're wrong and sinful, and you see nothing wrong with that because you seem to think that if you're backed by religion, you can do no wrong. Have your freaking opinion. I don't care. But maybe at this point you could keep it to yourself. We all know that you find what most of us listen to here offensive. You don't have to keep telling us. No, I'm not sorry I started the thread. We wouldn't be having this discussion if I hadn't started this thread. And of course blasphemous and / or satanic music is included in the stuff I don't listen to. But the thing about that is it just so happens that I also hate the sound of the music that has lyrics that too. So, I wouldn't like this type of music, even if it had lyrics that I like because I just hate the sound of it.

So...you really are closed to listening to almost everything. You won't listen to Ariana Grande because of one song. You don't like a band like XTC, even though there are probably thousands of Christian bands that sound just like them. You don't like electronic dance music. You don't like metal. You refuse to listen to any lyrics that might challenge your immovable Christian mindset. I'm guessing that any song that has the word god in it that doesn't sing praises to your lord is an automatic no for you as well. So, your world is what, Christian and gospel, a few country songs that don't cross your thin lyrical lines, and a few R&B songs that are rated explicitly G. You hate this. You won't listen to that. I feel bad that you have such narrow boundaries and such a closed mind for music.

Why should we contribute to a thread like this when all you can do is tell everyone you don't like what they listen to?

You do get finding things offensive, though. You won't listen to anything you MIGHT find offensive, and you don't want to be exposed to it. And yet, when you post an article that someone is offended by, you don't care.

Exactly what I pointed out earlier...your tastes are Christian and gospel, a handful of country songs that don't offend you, and older R&B that, again, doesn't offend you. Boring as hell, but whatever.

What I DO care about is that you use that guideline as a way of putting down everyone else here for not sharing your Christian values. Which is EXACTLY what you are doing by calling everything not in your narrow window of acceptability offensive, repulsive and vile (great words, btw), and ESPECIALLY by posting that ridiculously preaching article telling us all that we are wrong for what we are listening to, and that we all should turn our listening to songs that praise your lord. I have said repeatedly that I'm sorry you don't like the article. The 15 songs (16 now) in that thread is just a sample of what I listen to. It's not all I listen to. And I said that anything with an explicit lyrics sticker is not for ME. I didn't say that anyone here should not be listening to it. You're reading a lot into it that I never said. And you should not be offended that I consider music with content that is offensive to me to be offensive, repulsive and vile. I'm hardly the only one. There are many of us. If you can't see that that's how this kind of content comes across to people like me, then you have no understanding at all of those who are different from you. There are plenty of us. I didn't say anyone here had to agree with me, but it's my opinion and the opinion of many others too. Just because something is mainstream doesn't mean everyone finds it acceptable. I don't see why you should be offended by that.

No, I don't think you're monsters. I just don't see why @Romanelli seems to be so upset that I don't listen to stuff that I find offensive. As, I said, I'm not upset if people here don't listen to Christian / Gospel music. I don't see why someone would care that much about what I don't listen to. And I focus mainly on songs because there are so many albums out there that only have one or two tracks that I like. It is one thing I wish were different on this site. I wish we could add singles. You asked a question about what lyrics I find unacceptable to me and I gave an answer. How is that religious proselytizing? And yes, there are some songs that are blasphemous without having obscene and profane lyrics.

You don't comprehend. I'm not upset about what you listen to. I'm upset that the article you posted is offensive, and is insulting to pretty much everyone here, and you don't care, despite the fact that basically everything about music seems to offend you. Which comes across as you saying that we are all wrong for what we choose to listen to. Very typical devout Christian behavior...but judge not, right?

Look. You want to be closed minded and have basically zero variety in your music tastes? I don't care. What I do care about is that you announce it by telling everyone not what you like, but by telling us all that the music WE listen to is offensive. And then using an article supposedly about lyrics that's really nothing more than some preacher telling us that the music we listen to is offensive and that we should all be listening to Christian music instead to drive home your point, and following that up with more of you telling us that the music we listen to is offensive. Your refusal to acknowledge that you're doing that is frustrating and irritating.

I am here because I love music. I don't love all music, but the music that I do love, I love very much. All, I said is that I wish we could add singles here. I didn't say I was trying to change the site into that. It's just wishful thinking on my part. I'm just much more of a song person than an albums person.
