It was my most played song of 2024. I had it on repeat a lot. And I'm glad it doesn't sound more wild. I don't like music that sounds too wild.

Yeah I remember completely dismissing Valence & Brae on first listen as a sort of B-Boy Death Grips, but I shockingly rather enjoyed their last album. Nostalgia aplenty, but I like how much care went into the production and that they were clearly having a lot of fun wearing what's (dang another I'm-Old reminder) now vintage clothes.

REBEL was fine but feels far too tame for what it's trying to do, it feels like a more-serious version of Nashville Pop when it should be more of a straight-up barnburner

I should have clarified - my reference to bravery vs cowardice wasn't directed at the Valence & Brae song specifically. I was referring to a previous comment suggesting the Anne Wilson song wasn't rebellious, and trying to make a larger point about what gets considered "rebellious" and what doesn't. I get that the Valence & Brae song is ironic/silly/parody, not a serious statement. I just didn't find it funny or creative enough for what it was trying to do. Sorry if my comment was confusing.

REBEL seems extremely unrebelious, polished and by the numbers. Doesn't really live up to its name, imo. I'm going with my pick, Joey Valence & Brae are pure fun. Love that jungle breakdown.
