Thanks, I'll check these out. Other half is African, so it'll be interesting to go through list. Kudos for traveling the globe with these and other selections. Africa is such a massive continent (when you fly over you realise just how big) and has huge musical diversity. Very under-represented on BEA and other places.

Thanks AM—

Although this chart will always need work, and will always be unfinished, it's easily one I'm most proud of. When it was published, I couldn't find any publications with a recommend list of 100 African albums, and even now, years later, there's very few. I'm always checking out the old and new from the continent, and occasionally finding a great gem. There's still a solid 200 other albums that could be on here, easy (more if I didn't limit it to one-per-artist, course, I mean... Fela), and I hope people enjoy discovering these records as much as I did. My goal would be for everyone to hear at least ten of these 😁

There haven't been a lot of edits to this chart in the past 5 years because I have a hard time adding new albums because I don't want to cut anything on here, but here are some recent additions I hope people don't miss—

Born In The Night (2019) by Kapingbdi

Fangate Djangele Et Djanfa Magni (1977)...ou - Benin

Fleuves De L'ame (2021) by Houeida Hedfi

Useza (2025) by Chaka Chawasarira

Vagabonde (2013) by Mar Seck

Te-Kwaro Alango-Ekuka (2024) by Ekuka Moriss Sirikiti
