Ultimately a disappointing album for me. If it wasn’t for the title track, which is a absolute classic, this album would have disappeared into the foothills of rock history.

It does have some other decent tracks, Most Anything You Want and My Mirage are decent tracks and Are You Happy? Is great but the rest of the album is rather ho-hum

The group just met and actually, they pretty much unanimously agreed with the above.

The June album is

Blues Breakers (1966) by John Mayall & Eric Clapton

and I'll be posting a separate thread for that one

Thanks to those who commented. Didn't get a lot of interaction though for this album, which I totally get as it's a bit niche. My listening group meets on Tuesday and we'll see what June's album is then

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (Or In The Garden Of Eden)

Impossible to ignore title track. Without this track, the album would have been a footnote in history however, this track is just amazing.

It has its flaws of course. I’m not a fan of drum solo’s, maybe a 20 second one is OK but here we have 2 and a half minutes. Yawn! So, any track that’s over 17 minutes long will have but overall, it’s a phenomenal track.

Is it heavy metal? Not quite but there are elements of metal in here. Is it Psych? Most definitely. There’s also a big chunk of the blues in here.

A great jam of a track. To me it feels like the band are improvising the track as they go along each taking turns to impress. I’m sure that it’s not that way at all and that it was totally planned out but you get that feeling and that’s a good thing.

Are You Happy

The title track aside, this is my favourite track on the album. Heavy psychedelic (for the time) Great riffs and general guitar playing, great drumming, and intense organ (a reoccurring theme throughout the album)

Certainly, one of the heaviest tracks on the album. Some critics have liked it to tracks by Atomic Rooster and I completely see that. Great track

Termination

A heavy (for its time) psych track but Like every other track on this album, this is overshadowed by the title track which is a pity as this is an OK track

I’ll be honest, I’m finding a lot of the album a little samey but nearly onto side two where the fun really begins

My Mirage

A heavier track from the album and all the better for that. It blends heavy psych and early progressive rock. So far, the best track on side one.

Creates a nice vibe / atmosphere with it’s more dirgy sound. Great organ playing. Definitely not a filler track

I think that the title track is incredible. The rest of the album, not so much but still working my way through the tracks

A bit of fairly non-descript psychedelic pop / light rock song which is OK but quite filler IMO

Most Anything You Want

Not the most inspiring opening track but it’s OK. Doesn’t really start the album with a bang. In comparison to the much heavier later tracks this is more psych pop than psych rock / heavy rock

It does feature a very good guitar solo which I like. There’s also a Doorsian organ which is rather nice
