Great movie despite the questionable treatment of the story involving Douglas and Christensen. It's a true lesson of film-making regarding the three different styles of camera movement-colors used for each different story and the structure of the screenplay is superb, as well as some of the performances in here (especially Del Toro's). Half Nelson is really awesome too.

Half Nelson. Ryan Gosling's performance is amazing. It's not underrated (90% on RT), but rather not as well-known as it should be.

Also, I'd argue that Traffic is probably the best movie that's been made in my life so far, but I never see it get any love.

Just watched this amazing movie. It is NOT an action movie. There is very little action in this movie but if you are into the mystery thriller atmosphere building type of movie in which even the end credits are worth paying attention to then do not hesitate ...

Le Couperet (2005), by the director of Missing, Z, and Mad City, a film which is surprisingly relevant with the times we are living, and brutally honest as well with the neuroses of the average male person, impregnated with the demands of the modern competitive neo-liberal society.

Also, La Consequenze Dell' Amore (2004), a fantastically shot character piece, maybe a little too obscure at parts but with a great emotional pay-off and a precise portrayal of loneliness and introversion.

If you feel like you could risk it a little, also check out one of the early Verhoevens, back in his Dutch days (just remembered I haven't watched Soldier Of Orange yet, I will definitely try to catch up though), Turks Fruit (1973), with Rutger Hauer rivalling Al Pacino for energetic, powerful acting.

It stars Ellen Page, and Broken Social Scene were responsible for the music, which I guess are the two most famous names in it.. The story is quite simple if you think about it, but it's presented in a very unique way. The whole movie is on youtube (in parts) if anyone is interested:

Link

I for one thought it was really interesting, the "fragmented" style improved on what is essentially a fairly standard "teenage angst" story (sort of puts us in the mind of Tracey), it also leaves some things open to interpretation, I thought Ellen was excellent and Broken Social Scene did a really good job.. The soundtrack is awesome and I'm actually starting to regret that I didn't decide to submit it for the tourney.

So if anybody wants to see it, see the youtube vid I posted (at least the beginning and then see if you want to see the rest of the movie - although it has to be said, the beginning is the most.. unfocused and confusing part, it gets "easier to watch" later on). And if you had already seen it, I'd love to hear what you think about it? I kind of feel as though nobody else could enjoy it as much as I did.

a few others-
come and see (Иди и смотри) probably one of the heavyest movies i have ever watched, every time I watch it its like a fucking rock is dropped into my gut. In general Soviet movies are amazing and criminally under appreciated.

Any Giallo film (especially any directed by Lucio Fulci). Giallo films are Italian movies from the 70's. They are a mix of horror, slasher and mystery movies. Aside from the Horrible dubs and cheesey blood fx they are usually really interesting and imaginative.

Noroi the curse. My favorite horror movie of all time (if you can stand found footage movies)
