I've always considered Steve Reich as being cool.

Oh, and it could probably be reissued/remastered/whatever if it already haven't (I don't know anything about the record: I've never heard it).

I have a few issues with the above... nothing personal, just my view...

Applerill wrote:

Sorry I'm late about this, but on January 13 twenty years ago, the greatest female singer-songwriter album of all time was released by Tori Amos.

Errr....no. I imagine the likes of Joni Mitchell, Patti Smith, Suzanne Vega, Kate Bush, Carole King, PJ Harvey and Joanna Newson (to name but a few) would have something to say about that, as would other BEA members.

Applerill wrote:

Here were just a few of the things it achieved:
*Setting the "self-destructive confessional" mold for all these nineties female artists

Wearing your heart on your sleeve and airing your dirty laundry (as painful and as sad as it may be) for a record buying public was hardly 'invented' by Ms Amos. Dylan's "Blood On The Tracks" is pretty raw, Marvin Gaye's "Here, My Dear" also (both divorce albums from the 1970s) - and as for females what about Joan Baez and Buffy Saint-Marie - both singing from the heart since the 1960s.

Applerill wrote:

*Heavily Inspiring Jagged Little Pill, one of the best-selling albums of all time.

If you are saying that Tori Amos inspired Jagged Little Pill, she should be reviled, not revered. Just because a record sells well it doesn't mean it's an outstanding piece of work - and how many copies of JLP do you see in thrift/charity shops and garage/car boot sales these days?

Applerill wrote:

*Was recorded entirely in analog sound, which was really unusual in 1992, and is one of the things I like about the album most.

A fair point, but music is music, the recording process only adds or subtracts from the overall aesthetic. It's like listening to something on CD, MP3 or vinyl - we all have our preferences but the song remains the same.

Applerill wrote:

*Was "minimalistic" before The White Stripes made it cool.

Minimalistic? I'd hardly call string arrangements over tracks like Winter 'minimalist'.

Applerill wrote:

And probably many other things.

Littlest piano featured on an album cover?

Applerill wrote:

So, guys, what do you think of this record's anniversary?

Bugger all, truth be told.
