You are right. Particularly funny is a scene when Joni Mitchell sings behind the stage, hiding behind the curtains, with Neil Young's song "Helpless "! Better than the original version. 😜

And how great it is filmed: Scorsese's concert documentary is compiled by the rock era in a cinematic swan song.

I would just watch the movie. The movie is one of the all time great concert videos. It's directed by Scorcese, so it's good quality filming. Also the people in the concert are legends, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Dr. John, Muddy Waters, and of course The Band. A must see video.

Comparison, Last Waltz, you should also look at the Japanese band The concert recording from 1983.

For me the Band is at their best at Before the Flood ,the live album with Bob Dylan, the Last Waltz is a long listen for what i remember it didn't catch me as Before the Flood did.

It's very visual, and very well filmed. It was done as a Thanksgiving Dinner show at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco in 1976...the quality is excellent for the time. It also includes portions of interviews with the band members, focusing a lot on Robertson, who was becoming Scorsese's protogee at the time.

I'd say it's one of the very best concert films ever made, and should be seen by anyone who loves rock and roll at least once.

The Last Waltz is the farewell show by The Band. They would regroup later on, but without guitarist Robbie Robertson. This is his last show with them.

The Band plays on the entire album. They are joined by special guests, and play as the backing band on those tracks as well.

As for your questions:

1) Yes, see the movie. It was done by Martin Scorsese, and it's really very good. The Band are always good to see live, and the guests make it even better. If you can experience any live album with a visual, I'd always recommend that. But this one in particular.

2) If you like the movie, you'll want the album....unless you keep a copy of the movie. Then you won't really need it.

Looking for potential albums to listen to I find one called 'The Last Waltz' by The Band.

I do some research and find that it is some massive compilation/live album/album thing. Really, it's some sort of mix between them. Not only that... this album doesn't seem to contain many songs where The Band are playing. The tracklist has many artists coming on at different times and is very confusing to say the least. And it goes on forever... almost 2 hours I see.

Anyway, I have 2 questions to ask:

1. As I notice there is a film to go with it, would it be better to get the film than to listen to the CD or listen to select tracks online?

2. Is the album worth my time?
