I think themed charts could be a lot of fun too. There are some genres that will just never get their due in overall rock land. There's so much great music out there which never gets exposure.

Agree with this. It's a lot of fun as someone who loves music. If your goal is to keep up with every new chart then that's probably becoming impossible, though that particular goal is kind of insane to me. Once you get a sense of a given user's taste then you can delve into their other charts at a lower level of detail. An earlier poster said that some charts seem like an attempt (he said "desperate" though that seems a little unfair and probably inaccurate) to please others. I think in overall charts people start worrying about the "greatness" and influence of an album but in the more granular charts you start to get more of their pure personal favorites. That's interesting stuff.

I agree with you, and once there are some filters added to the charts pages, it will be much easier for you to see an uncluttered view of the site. There could also be an option where you could configure your default view.

This is on the 2012 roadmap as well, and should be released in the next couple of months.

I think we should have the chance to vote for the top 10 albums per year
It would be very useful especially at the end of each year...

Generally, I don't look at charts all that much, and I never rate them. For me, each chart is a user's preference, and I don't see how rating their preference matters in the slightest. At times it seems like charts are being created as a desperate attempt to please as many people as possible and gain a high rating because of it.

I do like the idea of decade charts, and think that 100 is a good number. I think year charts can work, but I personally think 40-50 albums for a year are good. 100 "Best" albums in a year? I'm skeptical about that.

I would like to be able to see, on an individual album page, a breakdown of which top charts are overall charts, and which are album charts, as well as a breakdown in the numbers. I'd be much more inclined to want to check out an album that appears on 10 overall and 2 decade charts than one on 4 overall and 15 decade charts.

I have my own really good filter for overall charts which helps me filter out the wheat from the chaff.. 😄

For decade charts, I generally only check out:

The decade charts from members whose charts I generally like and so think I will find something interesting in a decade one
Where I feel the person has some knowledge of the decade they have created the chart for (either from personal experience of the decade or general interest in music from that period)
Or a chart that maybe has some albums or bands that I quite like in it already so I am keen to see what the rest looks like (I tend to come at these charts through the albums rather than the through the 'updates notification')...

I agree though Shankly the amount of updated or new charts at the moment is pretty overwhelming and I am sure there are many many charts that I don't even bother looking at due to them being hidden in a mass of massness.

I disagree !

Decade chart is an additional way of communicating and sharing your preferences, opinions and tastes with others. Of course no one is forcing anybody to check out these sub-charts, but they are a good complementary source of Information about people's tastes.

I personally check out mostly overall charts, but sometimes i'm intrested in having a more complete picture of a member's tastes in order to have some good recommendations.

Even with my overall chart selections being kicked off my decade charts to make more space, there are STILL a few albums that I soooooooo want to include somewhere on either a decade chart or the overall chart.

I feel the same way. That is one of the reasons why I said that I like the expanded charts feature.

Before it was added some thought that there were not enough great albums made 2 fill all the charts.
