There's only one album I'd like to experience listening to for the first time again:
Oddesey and Oracle, which I see has already been mentioned.

I still remember thinking during the first listen: "But the next song can't be as good".
But it always was, every single song blew me away immediately.

Besised that, there are plenty of albums I'd like to relive listening to for the 4th or 5th time

Great question but of course the answer is no.

When I was an extremely naive kid with too much money from my paper route I bought albums like Bat Out of Hell by Meatloaf (my first purchase, in fact) and Even Now by Barry Manilow. (Yup.) But I still have fond memories of them. I still have a weak spot for the absurdly schlockiness of Leavin in the Morning or You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth. Catch me in the right mood and I might even play them again and sing along at the top of my lungs.

I'm talking of erasing every memory of that album from your head. I'm being hypothetical here 😄

And would you leave yourself a post-it note on the album, sent to yourself? What would you write?

I often wish I had never heard some of the jingle-jangle indie pop of the 80s that were a significant part of my youth, particularly the Smiths that I enjoyed the first time I heard them but retrospectively think haven't stood the test of time very well. Conversely, I didn't enjoy the the more 'difficult' artists highlighted by Cellar Door the first time I heard them but do now and realize that they HAVE stood the test of time. Musical tastes and approaches to music change with age and increased knowledge.

This is a great question, I've always wanted to go back to many of the albums I love and be able to hear them again for the first time.

I would definitely like to erase my entire memory of Ten by Pearl Jam and hear it for the first time again. By the time I was old enough to listen to it, it was already the mid 90's and they had skyrocketed to superstardom. I would love to hear the whole album start to finish never having heard any of the hits or having any idea how big they would get.

Also Siamese Dream. It's such a massive album, I would love to experience that sonic blast for the first time again.
Noisy s**t I didn't like (and that I didn't manage to finish on first listen), but are now top 50 classic s**t status :

Loveless - My Bloody Valentine ("I've purchased a bad copy - I can't even hear the lyrics")

Psychocandy - The Jesus and Mary Chain ("Are my ears bleeding ?")

Daydream Nation - Sonic Youth (total trash)

Trout Mask Replica - Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band (not much of a surprise to anyone, but god was I feeling nauseus after sitting through the whole thing)

Ege Bamyasi - Can (first krautrock album - I bought it the same day as the Trout Mask - bad idea !)

🤣 Haha, when I was listening to the album for the first time, I kept thinking, "When is somebody gonna start singing? I'm pretty sure this is not an instrumental." before I realized that, in fact, the singing HAD started. (BTW, Only Shallow reminds me of the Beatles' song Free as a Bird).

Well, very very hypothetically I would not mind hearing Born in the U.S.A. again for the first time, or rather, to experience the totally mindblowing experience I remember that as being. On the other hand, I was 10 years old at that point and did not have anywhere near the knowledge and experience of music that I do today, plus music has evolved quite a bit since that time, so chances are very high that hearing it for the first time wouldn't give the same experience now as it did then. So, I guess the answer, all things considered, is no.

Using this train of thought I would add

Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The sea

Bjork - Homogenic

Big Brother & Holding Camp - Cheap Thrills

I think I got lucky with all of these albums.

Ege Bamyasi - Can (first krautrock album - I bought it the same day as the Trout Mask - bad idea !)

Why don't you like noise rock? :(

Ha ha - so that really didn't make much sense then after all 😄

All the albums listed above appear on my top 50 best ever albums chart.

With time I've come to understand them, but would not want to experience Trout Mask again like I did on first listen (with headache and all).

The Avalanches album would be cool; still listen to it very often all the way through, and it still makes me feel great, but that first listen was so satisfying, especially since it was a buy on faith. Most of the time though I would agree with Naples

Im glad you asked this question. This has been playing on my mind for a while and I didnt know how to get it across in my own words.

1. Dimmu Borgir - Enthrone Darkness Triumphant (Got me into the Black metal scene and got stuck in it ever since, I'd have it higher on my list if black metal was a little more concreted on this site)

2. Radiohead - OK Computer (I hated Radiohead when I listened to their song Creep when I was about 12 or 13 and thought they were just one note pop stars. This album smacked me over the head with a sledge hammer (to quote the movie seven) and have loved it ever since, I'd do anything to get that first listen back.)

3. Sigur Ros - Ágætis Byrjun (This is one just took me by complete surprise. I had no idea music could influence me so much when I didnt and still dont understand what they are even saying. It's a genius album.)

Sure. Lots of albums were stunning on first listen but I'll give you two. Frampton Comes Alive and Black Sabbath Paranoid. My expression with both was holy shit that's different and amazing.

Is not one single album you would like to experience listening to for the first time once more?

Surprisingly, no! I never get the full experience of an album, never really appreciate it, until at least the third or fourth listen. First listenings are generally pretty underwhelming for me.

There are a couple of exceptions, like Mothership Connection by Parliament and Odessey and Oracle by the Zombies, and although they're spectacular I'm not sure they exactly shook me enough for a 1st time experience to be worth it again. I'd much rather just have them in my collection. 😄

Perhaps I misunderstood your question. I thought you asked if there was an album you wanted removed from your memory (because it was bad). But if you want to remove it to listen to it again, I am not sure. Often the first listen to an album is not as rewarding as subsequent listens. So I quess the answer is still NO. I'd rather wear a comfortable old shoe than a new shoe!

Are there any albums in your collection you would want to delete all prior knowledge of (hit singles, albums tracks, music, notes, cover, everything else) inside your head if you had the chance. I'm talking of erasing every memory of that album from your head. I'm being hypothetical here 😄

And would you leave yourself a post-it note on the album, sent to yourself? What would you write?
