New discovery to me, while searching for some more quality yugo music. I've heard of the guy before but I didn't know he made such well crafted pop music. I think the song is from 1979 (appeared on an album a year later), doesn't seem dated at all

chris thile is in there, hes like king fiddler or whatever. i like his other band better cuz it showcases his virtuosity
plus they do radiohead covers, they took down teh best one

They are/were a great band that not a lot of people know about. They don't really fit into a genre...I've heard them described as progressive bluegrass if that exists.

My favorite pop artist is Sara Bareilles. I think she's like a female Elton John. Beautiful catchy piano pop songs, with some guitar thrown in for good measure occasionally. Both of her albums are absolutely great.

John Lennon said The Beatles were "more popular than Jesus now". Lennon later pointed out, "If I'd said television was more popular than Jesus, I might have got away with it." Lennon said he had only been referring to how other people saw The Beatles, but "if you want me to apologize, if that will make you happy, then okay, I'm sorry."

Hunt/Harvos, it is hard to remember that far back, but as I recall Rabbi Jesus sang at the temple but was not a chazzan. But he was a member of a popular group, the local synagogue. I believe it was his disciple JL that was shot on December 8, 1980 perhaps as a preface to that year’s celebration of Rabbi Jesus’ birth.

Anyway, I thought Jesus was a carpenter, not a singer of a successful pop group. Was Jesus the Beatle who got shot back in the early 80's?

i wouldn't say playing in different time signatures simultaneously qualifies the song as inherently "great"

the beatles were a great pop band because they wrote really strong, catchy melodies.. such as yesterday, eleanor rigby, hey jude etc

Hey Midas you could make it simple and say. The Beatles flirted with riffs and harmonies every other band would beat to death for a whole album. The Beatles changed keys and time signatures mid song all the time and made it sound effortless. In "Happiness is a Warm Gun" they play two different time signatures at once at one point, and it still sounds like a pop song! That's why the Beatles were great pop artists.

Not too many other bands can boast the level of consistently memorable songs as they could. The Kinks are also great, but they weren't as great throughout their entire career so their second or third or maybe even fourth on the list. The Who are often considered a rock band, but early on, they had great pop singles and are another great pop band. Who else? The Smiths were a consistently great pop band. They're probably in my top five ever. R.E.M. is another from that period. Belle and Sebastian has great 60's influenced pop songs. The Jam and the Buzzcocks were great pop/punk bands. The Ramones were basically a pop band that played loud and fast. Glam is an offshoot of pop and David Bowie reigns supreme there. I mean try to write a pop song as good as Life on Mars. New Wave was another pop offshoot. Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, The Talking Heads, XTC, and Blondie--all had great pop songs. I'm rambling but hopefully you get the idea what I think pop is and how I value it.[/quote]

To me Pop/Rock is for example The Beatles: style of music pop-rock.. and power pop. It wasn't R&B, country, or traditional jazz-pop), The structure of many of the Beatles songs since my band plays some of their songs are verse/verse/ bridge. A lot of their songs don't rely on a chorus instead using a bridge in which many times they would either change time signatures or chords. The Kinks used this structure also as many British Invasion bands that were not really blues based as the Stones or the Yardbirds.
