I never said it could. But if you would be so kind Mind Movie, could you please post a rock album that was released before Rock With Bill Haley and the Comets. It was released in 1954 by the way.

The album is the earliest known LP release of the rock and roll genre.

I doubt that the invention of rock and roll music can be attributed to one particular LP. In that period of time, I guess singles were the dominant music media as well.

Don't know if they really were first or not, but Liquidiser by Jesus Jones was the first album I know of that fused guitar rock, dance, and electronic music and sampling into something awesome.

I'll agree with you that Colour of Spring is a transition album, and that's it's great, but it's easily classified as pop. Spirit of Eden is a totally different kind of music
The Shape of Jazz to Come-Ornette Coleman (free jazz)
Nevermind the Bollocks-Here's the Sex Pistols-Sex Pistols (punk)
Blue Lines-Massive Attack (trip-hop)
Talk Talk-Spirit of Eden/Slint-Spiderland(/Metal Box-PIL) (post-rock)

for some reason I think Birth of the Cool and one of Miles' fusion albums should be on here, but I'm not sure

I think The Colour Of Spring as an transition album evolved post-rock as well and on viewing this thread, this was the first one that came to mind.

The album is the earliest known LP release of the rock and roll genre.

always controversial, but here are some that came to mind...

The Shape of Jazz to Come-Ornette Coleman (free jazz)
Nevermind the Bollocks-Here's the Sex Pistols-Sex Pistols (punk)
Blue Lines-Massive Attack (trip-hop)
Talk Talk-Spirit of Eden/Slint-Spiderland(/Metal Box-PIL) (post-rock)

for some reason I think Birth of the Cool and one of Miles' fusion albums should be on here, but I'm not sure

I'm just finished listening to Days of Future Passed by The Moody Blues. I came to think that the album was hugely innovatve, and I don't believe something quite like it existed before - I can't find a former pop/rock album where everything feels so theatrical and overblown, filled with fantasy inspired poetry, backed up by a complete symphony orchestra and where the songs are rather suites divided into movements. I'll dare to call DoFP responsable for turning rock music into its 70s style: pompous and ambitious (or pretentious and self indulgent, as the skeptical would say). Though I'm not a fan of the album, I admire its attempt to create something unique.

Which albums do you consider to have created a new style of music?
