As they have gone from strength to strength recently, I 'll recommend the 2 newest Manic Street Preachers albums, 'Journal For Plague Lovers' and 'Postcards From A Young Man'. They sound nothing like each other though, so if you like one you may not like the other.

Out of those I've heard Marquee Moon(like it a lot), and Stay Positive(LOVE it). I'm not really a fan of Pavement, the New Pornographers, Wilco or the Decemberists, but I've heard that Built to Spill gets much better after their first album. I think if I were to venture out of my way to get some of these, they would be Entertainment!, Jesus of Cool and The Modern Lovers.

I'll think of some recommendations for you in a bit.

Who likes old-school classic soul and R &B (especially James Brown and Aretha Franklin?

If you answered yes, you need to check out Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Specifically, I recommend Naturally--Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings
Her cover of "This Land is your Land" is something else.

Also, for fans of eclectic world music and Radiohead-like moodiness, I recommend Devotchka.

Una Volta and How it Ends are both good.

For fans of Springsteen, The Clash (especially London Calling), Thin Lizzy and Lou Reed, I recommend:

The Hold Steady Actually I recommend The Hold Steady to Bork, in particular.

For fans of early new wave bands like XTC and classic 60's and 70's powerpop, I recommend:

The New Pornographers.

Yeah, ELP gets a lot of shit, most of it deserved, but they definitely have their moments. My two favorites from that one are Jerusalem and Karn Evil 9: 3rd Impression.

Opeth - (Dimmu Borgir - Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia)

Fever Ray - (The Knife - Silent Shout)

Simon & Garfunkel - (Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde or Highway 61 Revisited)

Dimmu are amazing, if you dont like the Puritanical album, try Death Cult Armageddon or Enthrone Darkness Triumphant.
