Um.... you know all in all Im sure Happymeal's a decent guy in the real world, and perhaps his special type of... "attitude"... comes across better in real life, but admittingly it's just gone from bad to worse whenever he's amped up his input. Trying not to make it personal, just these kinds of posts are the opposite of what I find positive or purposeful in the BEA forums. And if you're going to be a contrarian, be a contrarian... not one who always plays Backtracking Damage Control I-am-but-not-really Contrarian

And pearljammer is great all the way through. Friendly, unpretentious, still not afraid to take unpopular, principiled opinions and talk about them in a respectful manner... all around great guy. And seemingly the only other Kacey fanatic on BEA.

Happymeal. Fresh, utterly unique opinions & insights, extensive musical knowledge well beyond his years, always ready with great recs, an interesting chart with some great personal notes, and (sometimes) hilarious. Honestly, any community like this needs a few characters to shake up the status quo. He's always respectful and never causes any unnecessary drama (to my knowledge.) I really don't think the BEA forums would be the same without him.

EDIT: Plus, I just saw that he recognizes mad brilliance when he sees it and unlike me actually has the motivation and skill to carry it out. You rock, Happymeal!!!

Despite his name the man has an incredibly wide range of music that he loves. I'm not even certain Pearl Jam are his favourite band, actually. They might be but even then, just the variety he listens to is incredible.

Happymeal, mainly because I knew the vote would be 3:1 or something like that for pearljammer. They're both great guys and I think Happymeal gets way too much flack from people on here. Tough vote though. Hard to say which one I'd actually say deserves to go through, but I'll give it to Happymeal simply because he's way down in the count.

Pearljammer, wish he would post more, really cool guy. Plus, for how long Happymeal's posts are I never feel like I've gotten anything out of them, so that also sways my choice.

Happymeal. Though he can get very tedious, (minecraft server being one example) his adventurous and jokey personality is exuded very well throughout the forums, and I like this. I guess he can become a bit of a nuisance at times, but wonderful recs are provided, and at times he's good fun to have around. Yeah, he's improved a lot too. Pearljammer, I've not seen much of him, it's hard to compare such a mixed bag to someone I barely know. Vote to Happymeal, anyways.

I'm not a big fan of the whole "explaining yourself" concept, but I do have one issue that I feel needs a bit of addressing and that's the whole contrarian accusation that (while previously could have been true) isn't exactly correct. I think the most recent thread where this was made directly was the Mingus vs. Cash thread where I had certain qualms regarding Mingus' music. I don't enjoy being misconstrued, I personally think Charles is a genius and the way he attained such a status is amazing, especially for his time, but influential, being innovative, etc. doesn't play into my personal feelings towards the music. The point is I tend not to get caught up with appreciation towards what artists have done when judging how they sound. Perhaps people don't enjoy that kind of judging, which is fine, but whenever I state my preferences I'd rather it not be confused with just being a contrarian because that's not it. I'm also aware there are more reasons to dislike someone so this isn't one of those "defending myself to get more votes" type of statements (which wouldn't work regardless considering people already have made up their minds).

EDIT: I also find little reason in regurgitating what people have already said about certain artists/groups. Most people hold the same/similar opinions as me so there's no point in saying the same thing as them because it's already out there. I'm just not into conversation where everyone thinks the same thing because it's pretty boring to witness.

Happymeal. He's really grown on me this year. When I first came to BEA, I just saw him posting lots of contrarian reviews, but since then he really turned a page and proven to be a good guy with lots of great recs. Plus he's my Plug.dj buddy.

pearljammer, even though he barely posts anymore (except about sports). Nice guy, with a great passion for the things he loves. Happymeal is full of interesting recs, but on the downside he's Happymeal.
