Oh, my last entry!

Well before I listened to anything I went to a farm (it was an open day, and my bro was working there) where I had some dench scones, ice cream and a free burger (it pays to be related to the employees)

When I got home I had my make/break listen of Lazaretto I gave it an 8/10 - There wasn't much that stood out for me (although I was finding it hard to focus on it anyhow) but there also weren't any bad tracks. Just standard Jack White material, I guess - although the title track and Three Women were great fun. Jack Whites also the name of a local druggie, btw.

Then I listened to Daydream Nation but, again, found it hard to focus until the Trilogy came roaring on - 14 minutes of the best rock music from the 80's.

Y'know what else is some of the best rock music from the 80's? You Can't Hide Your Love Forever! I simply must move this further up in my chart - every time I listen to it it seems to improve (Falling And Laughing is a solid contender for best song ever)

And now I'm listening to You Made Me Realise - I wish this was longer, it seems wrong for such a great release to be so short!

And with that, my time here is finished! Apologies for the boring submissions to this (most of them tbh). All the same, I hope you enjoyed at least some of it.
Yeah, that seems to be the general consensus. I actually really liked the Dorne sections due to the introduction of Prince Doran. His character really resonated with me. His thoughtful musings, his appreciation of something as simple as carefree, childhood play, and how he consciously chooses his children's welfare over honor. Which is all sorts of crazy irony considering that in Dance With Dragons... Just Kidding!! Nothing at all happens in Dance with Dragons. 🤣

Yeah, it definitely was slower. It was alright, but I found it a bit hard to care about the sections set in Dorne. Same as with the Dragonstone bits in the earlier books.

I only listened to one album today (I spent most of today watching Robot Wars or finishing off A Feast Of Crows)
and that was

Thumbnail. My Favorite Things by John Coltrane

While I listened to John Coltrane, McCoy Tyner and Elvin Jones being perfect (as to be expected) I went for a walk through Barrow and appreciated the sights (At one point, going up a hill, I was suddenly struck by a sense of everything being so beautiful, even the pebbledash on the walls), the sounds (Of people having fun - how terrible!) and smells (Pubs have a distinctive smell of cigarettes and alcohol and god knows what else, that seem to be the same no matter which one it is). When seen in the twilight, I can almost grow to love this town - though I know ultimately I will be far happier when I leave in August, even if it is a god damn village I'm moving to.

Walking past a church, I get sent a dick pic from a user on here. It is my third BEA dickpic and my first Snapchat nude. Cheers for that.
I only listened to two albums today - just not been in much of a mood for music.

Listened to Lazaretto while I was out getting my sim card fixed and shit - It wasn't as good as the first listen, strangely - still a bunch of good songs but some of it did just seem like typical Americana-Blues Rock.

Also listened to Superfly (well, not much, truth be told I was only half awake at that point)

After that I just watched Robot Wars (razer deserved better 2k01) and Forrest Gump. It's an aight movie I guess, nothing lifechanging.

this is probably the most boring ULL so far, sry.

I feel this is exactly the opposite of what I feel. I found that the YYY's did the sort of Pylon worship best when they didn't water it down with very generic (and boring) synthpop elements. It's been some time since I last listened, but I think its very applicable still.

I prefer Fever To Tell myself, but synths are still dope as fuck.

Well, it better last a while, no way do I have the money to buy another one!

Wednesday Night

Tried out this

Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Sounded pretty great, keeping some of the energy of Fever To Tell and chucking in some synths - which improve almost everything tbh.

Also had my first listen of

Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.

Lazaretto by Jack White

Not much to say about it, it's pretty muc hexactly what you would expect from Jack White and his fairly distinctive brand of blues rock - I can see myself enjoying this one a great deal.

Also listened to;
PJ Harvey - Stories From The City, Story From The Sea - I prefer the raw, abrasive sound of Rid Of Me, but this polished take on it is brilliant as well.
Ornette Coleman - The Shape Of Jazz To Come
Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - The Boatman's Call
Haha yeah I may or may not have already. Who's to say?

It seems very sturdy, and it is, I'm sure if you dropped it, it'd be fine, for the most part. I never dropped mine, I took pretty good care of it, but I think what impaired it the second time was that I was walking around with it so much in my pocket, and it ruined the headphone jack. For the hard drive error, I wish I could tell you what was the reason.

I bet you have a warranty for it, so don't worry at all, I really don't mean to scare you. If you end up using the warranty though, then I'd be somewhat more careful if I were you. I'm pretty sure most people have had their's for years without it breaking. I know one of my best friends has had his perfectly fine for almost as long as I've had mine, but then again, he had a case for it to begin with.

At most, I've just been unlucky. I'm confident it won't cause you trouble.

I recommend you get a case though, for holding it. They don't sell them in any stores (at least where I live), but you should order one online. Mine broke twice (1st a harddrive error, then the headphone jack itself broke for one ear/side). The first time I was on the warranty, so they replaced it, but the second time they didn't (even though it was a simple part replacement), and I had to pay $60 to get a new one.

Enjoy it but be gentle with it

Wasn't very impressed. A Million Pleading Faces and Hokoyo were just annoying, and much of it was just... really boring. The title track was the only one to rank amongst the likes of Falling And Laughing. Not gonna bother with anything else from this band. 4/10.

Yeah, that album is whack outside of a few songs. Would definitely recommend The Orange Juice (the album) though before you give up on them completely. It's dope, and nearly as good as their debut in my eyes. 'What Presence', 'Salmon Fishing In New York', 'Lean Period', and particularly 'I Guess I'm Just A Little Too Sensitive' rank high among their very best best songs. Tbh it's the natural successor to their debut, a more polished, more confident, more soulful take on their early sound.

Got myself an iPod Classic and Nokia Lumia! Solved the two problems I had; My 16gb iPod was running out of space, and my phone was an outdated piece of garbage. I now, however have a far bigger problem - i've got no money! and no job!!!

Financial problems aside, listened to one of my two 2014 albums for this week, namely

Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.

Stay Gold by First Aid Kit

I can't really comment on it, because I never pay attention on the first listen. I will say that it's amusing to hear them say the words "shit gets fucked up".

After that, I had my make/break listen of

Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.

Rip It Up by Orange Juice

Wasn't very impressed. A Million Pleading Faces and Hokoyo were just annoying, and much of it was just... really boring. The title track was the only one to rank amongst the likes of Falling And Laughing. Not gonna bother with anything else from this band. 4/10.
These are all the albums I listened to while playing Europa Universalis IV

Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.

No One Cares by Frank Sinatra

First listen, I was fascinated by Sinatra's description of it as "an album full of suicide songs" - dark, sad Sinatra is my favourite Sinatra. It didn't dissapoint, can definitely see this becoming a favourite.

Then I moved onto In The Wee Small Hours. Still the best album from the 50's that I've heard. It's a shame that this side of Sinatra is often ignored in favour of his swing material, which I've never been much of a fan of.

Then I decided to listen to 808's & Heartbreaks (pretty glum run, eh?). I really don't know why this isn't in the top 1000 - but then I'm a bit of a Kanye fanboy.

Then The Queen Is Dead, Enter The Wu-Tang, Abbey Road and finishing with In A Silent Way. All brilliant albums. Also Merriweather Post Pavillion, which I don't think will ever "click" with me.

In case you're wondering (ur not), I did brilliantly in Europa. I took land from Denmark and Norway, and with the help of Poland, Lithuania, Scotland and Nogai (who literally cut them in half), finally ended Muscovite dominance in the area. However, I did lose half my navy by taking them too far away from my supply lines :l

Tuesday 18:44

So after not doing much today (there never is much to do, really) I decided to revisit this

Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.

Biophilia by Björk

It remains just as average as before. This is undoubtedly the weakest Bjork album I've heard so far - the instrumentation is only occasionally interesting (Mutual Core and Crystalline's breakbeat sections are fairly thrilling, and Cosmogony's a nice slow lull of a song) and I find Bjork rely's too much on vocal runs (this would be far more annoying if her voice wasn't so lovely). The song structures themselves seem to be rather repetitive/awkward, with the cumbersome lyrics certainly not helping. I imagine this all works much better accompanied with the Apps. 6/10.

I only listened to one other album today, this strange slice of 1960 space pop

Thumbnail.
Joe Meek must be some sort of wizard to make something like this when he did. It's weird, it's both very dated and yet so forward-sounding. Definitely a bit of a forgotten figure when it comes to innovations in production - a shame he never worked with any big names, imagine this guy producing, say, Revolver?

Other than that I mostly just shuffled some more until GOT came on. That fucking gory ending - that squelch. 8l
