Jhereko wrote:

4. "Blue In Green" - Miles Davis
7. "Sing, Sing, Sing" - Benny Goodman
12. "It's Nobody's Fault But Mine" - Blind Willie Johnson

I'm pleasantly surprised to see these land as high as they did. I didn't know Blind Willie Johnson even had a following here. I certainly highly recommend his recordings to those who haven't already checked him out.

Jhereko wrote:

1. "Strange Fruit" - Billie Holiday

I think Norman stacked the deck by mentioning this song ahead of time. 🤣

Seriously, though, it's a great song that didn't quite make my list. Certainly worth celebrating even if only for its social significance.

Jhereko wrote:

2. "Lonely Woman" - Ornette Colman

I expected this to land at #1 and it looks like it came quite close. Jazz brilliance.

Quote:

2. "Lonely Woman" - Ornette Colman
4. "Blue In Green" - Miles Davis
8. "So What" - Miles Davis
10. "Better Git In Your Soul" - Charles Mingus
14. "Blue Train" - John Coltrane
20. "In The Mood" - Glenn Miller And His Orchestra
21. "'Round Midnight" - Thelonius Monk Quartet
26. "Moanin'" - Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers
30. "Take Five" - The Dave Brubeck Quartet

Overall, I'm happy about the number of instrumental jazz numbers that made it, considering how many great ones there were from this period. Five of these were on my list and all are worthy, IMO.

Quote:

3. "Johnny B. Goode" - Chuck Berry
6. "Tutti Frutti" - Little Richard
17. "Peggy Sue" - Buddy Holly
22. "I Got A Woman" - Ray Charles
27. "That'll Be The Day" - The Crickets
28. "Wake Up Little Susie" - The Everly Brothers

There's less rock/R&B than I expected, but these are pretty good picks. I had three of them on my list... but yeah, no Elvis is kinda crazy.

Yeah, that shocked me. He got votes on several different songs but not consensus on any. Praying "Suspicious Minds" makes the 60's list 🙏

Wish I'd saved my list. All I know is that none of the Charlie Parker I voted for made it ... nor Nat "King" Cole 🤔 Also I know I had another Chuck Berry on there. Also really nothing off Mingus Ah Um? 🤔 🤔 🤔 Like most of it I get but Goodbye Porkpie Hat is a classic ... I'm actually pretty surprised at this list.

Oh and shameless plug for my number 1 song of the 20s through 50s:
