You're right about the US Help!. It's just Side 1 mixed with some instrumentals. While Side 1 of Help! is my favorite side of a Beatles album, I don't think it's necessary to spread it across the whole album.

Well, in regards to Rubber Soul, I actually might like that tracklist a bit better (even though it goes against 30+ years of listening to the UK version), but it's only due to the US hack job on Help!, which is terrible in comparison to it's UK counterpart.

While I think that some of the Beatles US albums were hackjobs of the originals, some of the Capital albums were good. I think "Meet the Beatles" is a great summation of that period of the Beatles work. Their compilation of "Magical Mystery Tour" was very good, taking the EP and adding the '67 singles. "Hey Jude" is also a good listen, even if the two "Hard Day's" tracks are a weird starter.

You're basically trading Mothers Little Helper + Out Of Time + Take It or Leave It + What To Do for Paint It Black. Paint It Black maybe my favorite Stones song, but Mothers Little Helper is up there with it, and Out Of Time and Take It Or Leave it are both better than a lot of other tracks left on the US release.

I can't even imagine how good Aftermath would have been with Paint It Black, Mother's Little Helper, Out of Time, and 19th Nervous Breakdown all on the same album with Under My Thumb, I Am Waiting, and Lady Jane.

Good point. Mothers Little Helper and Paint It Black are two of my favourite Stones songs but I was never all that bothered by Take It or Leave It. I forgot MLH was even on the UK release. That would have been a great release though.

Generally, yes. The only exception to this rule I can think of off the top of my head is "Aftermath".

I don't care much about the US version. Astronomy Domine, Flaming and Bike are amongst my favourite songs from the album. I think Astronomy Domine is one of the best album openings ever, it's crazy it's not even on the US version.
I love See Emily Play or all the other early Pink Floyd singles but it just doesn't fit on the album.
I also don't like Pow R Toc H and Take Up Thy Stetoscope and Walk being second and third songs. They are much better in the middle of the album in between Flaming and Interstellar Overdrive.

Pretty much this. "See Emily Play" is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs, but it doesn't fit with the rest of the album. Plus, "Astronomy Domine" is one of the best written Pink Floyd songs ever.

I put in my own two cents, being fresh off this album. I go by some points.

I like what the US version does on Side 1. I like the order of the sequence and it makes for a breezy listen. I also like "See Emily Play" which is one of their best singles.

Side 2 is a little iffy though. The original version of Side 2 is more fun, I guess you would say.

"Interstellar Overdrive" does better as a side opener than a side/album closer, though I can clear see the idea behind it.

I can see why they also used "The Scarecrow" as a side opener, and for this version, it works.

"Astronomy Domine" is one of, if not the best song of the album. I don't see the reason why it's not here.

It's alright. Pink Floyd does receive too much attention on the website, I will admit. I was curious. And for that matter, what does any think of any alternate versions of any album from a different country? Does anyone have a favorite version of an album that's different from the original release?

I know and like the UK version, for what it's worth. I love this thread though, seems like it has a lot of scope for in-depth, unploughed discussion. If there's one thing that strikes me about Pink Floyd, it's that nobody ever talks about them enough. Hey, what's your favourite Radiohead album?
