Wow, Holo isn't nearly getting as much appreciation as I'd thought it would. I loved it to pieces, one of my favourites of the tourney. Beautiful stuff. Kill from the Heart was nice enough, can't see myself returning to it anytime soon. Vote to Holo.

Yet another great electronica/ambient album! This one more in the downtempo mold. Reminds me of a lot of great 90s stuff at times like Seefeel & Flying Saucer Attack for some reason. But, it doesn't have the uniqueness of Synthethist, the transcendence & emotional heft of The Tired Sounds, or the classic status of KLF's Chill Out. Plus, it seemed front-loaded (Does that even make sense for a downtempo album.)

if I had to rank them (& let's face it, I DO), I'd rank the electronica output like this...

1. Tired Sounds - Ambient on par with Eno?!? *gasps*
2. KLF's Chill out - downtempo classic that was worth the wait. Pink Floyd rules!!!
3. Synthethist - a more propulsive Tangerine Dream. Interesting.
4. Halo

Whereas, if there's another hardcore album as good as KIll From the Heart in this tourney, I'll... tries to think of the most insane thing that he could so outside of selling his children into slavery....wonders if he can sell his wife into said institution....figures that there must be laws against that sort of thing so... Give away my vinyl AND become born again! :twisted: Can you become a born-again panentheist?

I got Holo as a rec from KKS in a plug session either late last year or early this year, listened to it once, enjoyed it a lot, and then kind of forgot about it. Relistening to it today, I'm actually a bit surprised how much I enjoyed it. Fantastic ambient stuff, really inviting and warm sound. Kind of gives me a similar vibe to .O.Rang or other stuff like that that I've listened to in the last 24 hours. Anyways, I enjoy it a lot.

I also really enjoyed Kill From The Heart, it was fun, very straightforward punky stuff. Always a good thing for a burst of energy, and the lack of subtlety actually works for them. The blues elements were cool even if they did invite my brain to unfair Gun Club comparisons.

Solid matchup, my vote goes to Holo.

Kill from the Heart is one of the best punk albums I've ever heard, so that.

Holo was average. Not bad, but nothing I can see myself going back to in the future.

Kill from the Heart was pretty intense. I thought it was a great album for those who want to get yelled at for an hour. Nice guitar work, though.

Kiln with the Holo was pretty dull. Each track sounded like an intro to a really great song that never really got started. Better than Stars of the Lid, though.

After listening to both albums I had to cleanse my musical pallette with this:

Voting Holo, in an interesting matchup. Kill from the Heart is good, and relevant - an interesting use of the blues idiom in a political record that maybe lacks a little subtlety - 1983 was probably not a time to be subtle though. Good. I thought Holo was probably a little more challenging on the whole, and I took a little more pleasure in listening to it and I see myself coming back to it for more in depth listening, more so than Kill from the Heart tbh.

Kill from the Heart is an essential Drakcore, loved it actually I had already listened to it before it even being its match in the the tournament, when It drew my attention in his chart, and I remember it being really amazing, And agressive and violent, classic drakshit of drak, It's one of my favs for this tournament, But I still need to listen to Holo to vote so I will do it and then I vote for my fav of the both

Kill From The Heart has been a landmark album for me in the last few months. Stylistically, it's definitely punk music, at times verging on hardcore, though never being quite as fast and short. There are some noticeable blues-rock elements as well (they actually cover Purple Haze, for example).

By punk-rock standards, it's pretty noisy though. There are walls of distorted guitar noise in the background of most tracks, and Gary Floyd is a very powerful singer. He's like what Tom Waits would have sounded like if he had been in a punk band. The whole things reaches heights of brutality, even in a genre which is, basically, kinda brutal.

I just figured I'd briefly describe what is sounds like, because considering the lack of votes and comments, I thought that a good amount of people may have not heard it yet (which is OK, I mean, there are a few records from this tourney I haven't heard yet as well, and I'm totally guilty of this myself). Maybe it'll motivate some listenings ^_^

I personally view it as one of the most full of passion and sheer anger records of all time. Floyd is screaming at the top of his lungs, and every instrument seems to be totally out of control, playing fast and loud. It does share another common point with Tom Waits IMO, it's how striking the first listen is. I didn't even think it was possible for an album to be so violent, so uncompromising, while retaining everything that makes punk music so awesome, from the power chords to some anthemic choruses. I haven't checked all the lyrics, but from what I've got, they're very left wing, and very in-your-face. Like, there ain't no poetic metaphor here. YOU BOURGEOIS PIG, YOU FUCKING PIG

I'm not too well-listened, even in punk which I could call my favorite genre, but I truly haven't heard anything as powerful as this. I do believe it's a unique album which takes to its extreme one of the main aspects of the genre, while never sacrificing the enjoyable side of things either.

Obviously I'm voting for it, but I did like Holo, surprisingly. I'm definitely not into ambient, but things actually "happen" in that record (terribly cliche to say that, I know, but I'm just a popster, I can't stand all these one-note things (yet?)). So cheers Keith, I enjoyed that record, and it would have gotten my vote in many another matchup.
