Completely. While this is a sweet morning in an isolated misty valley-located log cabin, Lookaftering is the sunset just after the fog clears. It's less naive and has a pang of regret, perhaps a bit more worldly. I really love them both.

One of the most surreal gig experiences I've ever had was seeing Vashti on stage at the Royal Festival Hall - it was almost like watching a meadow nymph who was trying desperately to hide behind the lilypads, so delicate and precious was she. Bearing in mind she hadn't performed in public for about 30-or-so years, I suppose you could have expected it, but she was captivating from start to finish.

...Diamond Day is a gorgeous record - innocent, rustic, bucolic, full of imagery and one album that constantly stayed with me in my car during my kooky folk phase which culminated in me attending the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge. Part of me wishes I'd seen Vashti there, weaving her waif-like way between the stones, but instead there were just bongo players on acid.

It's pretty but is also wise and loving and wow wow. Just giving this album the tag "pretty" is about as accurate as giving Cross Paths the label "cute" or Giles Corey the label "sad". It's not inaccurate, but it is very surface level, imo.
It appeals to me in the same way The Wind in the Willows does. And I credit it for giving me an interest in the folklore of the British Isles. Probably the most influential album for me.

See here for an account of an experience I had with this album. It's one of those super-sensitive albums that usually doesn't appeal to me, but as you can see there, it depends on the situation...

I love this album! 😁 I might put in on my chart soon. It's so lovely and pretty sounding. My favorite track is "Rainbow River"

Summary Info: The debut album of English singer-songwriter, Vashti Bunyan. Most of the songs were written during a trek around the countryside, searching for an artistic commune supposedly established by Donovan. This would be her only album until 2005, when renewed interest in her music brought her back to the studio.
