anything that's repeated too much, in radio play or personal play, becomes boring after awhile... except for the select few... which I would say are less than 200 songs

Well this is not a song but Smash by The Offspring and hence all the songs on it. I can't even name which song because I liked them all then but now other than the hits which get a dusting every once in a while because they are still crowd pleasers and get some airplay at parties but otherwise I can't be bothered to listen to it for its own sake. Maybe getting the girl of my dreams improved my self esteem too much but I could`ve sowrn this was better.

Ah! To be young again - oh wait! I already was no longer young in 1994!?!?!?! Dang!

Actually, disregard all I said, I listened to it again just now and while it's not what I would regard as a brilliant song, it's good. I was holding it up to standards way too high, it's certainly better than most the other stuff on Post.

Pretty much anything by Hot Hot Heat. I made a comment pretty much detailing this on their first album, but it's just so weird how engrossed I was with that 2002-2004 indie pop/rock shit like them, All-American Rejects, OK Go, Fountains of Wayne, Razorlight, The Datsuns and Snow Patrol.

Bah! preposterous I say! You know what? When I listen to you, you sound boring and flat. No really what I mean is the problem lies with you not the song. I mean for god sake it came out before you were born - how have you had time to love it then not like it???

I don't know, I had a short infatuation with it then, I stopped liking it.
And since when have you had to of been alive while a song has been out to like it?

I know this is an old thread, but I don't see why not bring it back if you've got something that fits in with it.
A couple of songs do this for me. Most songs by The Human League I can't be bothered listening to, it just strikes me as cheesy pop.
I also used to be gobsmacked at Hyperballad by Bjork, the song would actually get me teary eyed. But now when I listen to it, it just seems uninspiring and rather flat.

hope they dont although im not their biggest fan I do like them on their good day. The three part song on Resistance was pretty ood but some of the songs suggested they were running out of ideas.

I found a lot of Oasis songs tbat really start to lose meaning after listening a couple of times and I cant really listen to them at all anymore, everyone now and then I crave Dont Look Back in Anger but thats about it

Basically, from what I've seen almost everyone at one point in time has picked them up.

My brother, who's a big Muse, used to say "I dread what they would do next after Black Holes, I'm worried they're going to do a Kid A or make a classical album".

Now I'm thinking what will they do next after Resistance? Or what about that Neutron Star song? It wasn't a bad song but the backlash was unbelievable, almost as if Matt Bellamy had converted to Scientology or something.

But where would they go after that? Will it be further experimental territory or will they blast off up the charts and get a UK number and (wait for it) a billboard top 100 number 1. In 2009 and 2010 their popularity went up like supernova, if they were to write the right pop song the chart topping idea could easily become a reality!

I'm the opposite on Spiralling by Keane and Muse in general. Didn't care for either at first, now I like Spiralling and can't get enough of Muse. Actually, seeing Muse in concert and actually having to listen to them for 90 minutes or so was the turning point that made me go from disregarding them completely to loving them.

I also had that thing with spiralling thought it was pretty cool and rated it as one of the best of 2008 but now listen to it and think 'what was I thinking'. But mainly almost anything by MUSE. used to be a big fan up until probably last year. I think when they released that last album I kind of realised how useless and shallow they really were. So when i went to listen to some older stuff I could remember how i felt about them when i liked them but I was now hearing them with different ears. still like the song 'showbiz' though.

So many. I used to be a big Korn fan and the song that got me into them was "Falling Away From Me" and I was addicted and now I really dont know what I was thinking. This goes for most of Korns songs now as well.

Rage Against the Machine are starting to go into this category as well as Linkin Park and Guns and Roses. I pretty much cant listen to any of their songs after loving them all 5 or 6 years ago.

Every now and again I choose to listen to a song I used to like a lot when I was younger but seldom ever listen to now. Some of these are enjoyable and I wonder why I haven't listened to them for so long.

However there are many which leave me cold. Ones which I could have sworn were much better.

The latest one in a long line of these is Spiraling by Keane.

When this was first released I remember being blown away. The weird synths and the "woos" worked like magic to my ears. I was hooked easily. It had a decent beat and the lyrics were able to please my demand for lyrics which I thought "meant something" at the time. Listening to it today first of all it sounds a lot slower than I imagined it. Where I used to imagine lots of colour now seems like empty space. The title, Spiraling, is a word that certainly brings to mind activity and I could easily imagine reds and lime greens spinning in tune with synths. However there is not a lot going on in the song, something which I should forgive considering Keane's band arrangement. Both the bass sound (piano? synth? bass guitar??? I can't tell!) and the drums do little to attract the attention between those weird keyboard noodles.

And then there is that spoken word part...

I remember this part being unbelievable. Where whats his name gave some sort of speech about life, choices and everything else. It's hard to believe that this was inspiring. When I listened to it today it strode past as if in a hurry leaving me thinking "is that it?". I think it may be because I have listened to so much different music since 2008 and it just doesn't seem interesting anymore. I'm not even sure why its even there. Can't hear what I heard in it before at all.

Link

Well that was a rather long winded way to ask the question 🙄 Are there any songs you could have sworn were better last time you heard them? Not counting those you played/are currently playing to death, I'm talking about the ones you forgot for years.
