Ew, what an ugly result. I was planning on listening to In the Dark someday but I'll do it ASAP so I can vote for Crime. Seriously though, Supertramp really is over the top as fuck but they're also genuinely touching IMO. That record really is full of emotion, but I might also be blinded by nostalgia (or what looks like nostalgia when you're actually 21 year old haha).

Voted for Crime of the Century. I grew up with it anyway... In the Dark did not stand out (for me) compared to other Reggae albums...

That's funny. I was going to write exactly this about Crime of the Century.

I do have to admit that both Eldorado and Crime of The Century make me laugh. Which is a good thing. I really wish I got them more. As a BAWP, I'm kind of a disappointment.

Anyways, it may not be "prime" Maytalls, but it's still pretty kickass. I will have to check out their prime stuff at some point (any recs?) because this is just what I need right now. Like popping a quick-acting Valium. And it doesn't leave you groggy in the morning.

Went with Toots here. Crime of the Century is far from the worst prog I've ever heard, but it's still pretty much not me.

Only ever had a Toots best of but enjoyed this one very much. The Supertramp album I have on vinyl and only quickly skipped through in the past to see if i should get rid along with Breakfast in America which I didn't like at all. Not totally convinced by Crime but the first and last tracks are good, parts are great even.

In the Dark isn't exactly prime Toots, but it does contain 'Time Tough', the lovely 'Revolution', and that thoroughly enjoyable version of 'Country Roads'. Not entirely sure why they felt the need to tack on '54-46', especially given the song had first been released five or six years earlier, but it's difficult to argue that the band's best song and defining moment in any way worsens the album. Plus, I can't stand Supertramp. Easy decision for me here.

While I am unashamed of my love for Breakfast in America, Crime of the Century is just far too uneven. It's basically a couple good songs and whole bunch of filler. While In the Dark is just good all the way through, including the cover of John Denver's "Country Roads"

Toots and the Maytals were an influential Jamaican Reggae band that, on September 29, 1980, set a record for fastest performance-to-record-release turn around, They recorded a live show, pressed, labelled, and packaged a record (called Live), and had it available in record stores within 24 hours.

Six years earlier, they recorded the record in question today. It's called In the Dark.

In 1979, Supertramp released Breakfast in America a monster quadruple-platinum album that holds the interesting distinction of being the best selling English-language album in France.

Five years before that, they had had a couple of albums that flopped and nearly broke up before they produced their breakthrough album, Crime of the Century.
