Woop! Get the word out. Severely underrated album. In my top 5 of the year.

It is underrated. An album of straightforward, propulsive, heartfelt, catchy and very danceable House. I love how (to be frank) gay the album is too 😉 Plus "let yourself be/feel cunt" is one of the best lyrics of the year. 🤣

What's not to love!? 😄

Part of what made me fall in love with it so quickly. Zorn kills it with that tenor sax... and Cave fits surprisingly well with the tone of the album.

EDIT: additional fun fact: Zorn has either made or been featured on at least 8 stellar albums this year. Also he can read minds and has mastered the art of zen levitation

I swear, the coolest musicians are all tenor sax players. Moondog, Zorn, Steven Brown, benpaco ...

If I rated albums on a 5 star basis instead of out of 100 (think more like Amazon reviews), then 8 albums would have gotten a perfect score this year. It's a good mix, I'd think:

Teledrome by Teledrome

Dance Punk

Pink Narcissus by Tuxedomoon

Er ... right no one has a genre for this, even pitchfork sort of gives up trying. It's an instrumental post-rock album that is heavily post rock and shoegaze influenced while also mostly being a jazz experiment still. Yeah.

Strange Desire by Bleachers

Pop. Or as my dad would put it "OMD music".

Range Of Light by S. Carey

Lo-fi something or other. Imagine Bon Iver but a little more complex soundscapes with a little simpler vocals.

Cope by Manchester Orchestra

Alt rock

Thumbnail. Click to enlarge.

Everyday Robots by Damon Albarn

According to the internet, "folktronica and hip hop"

Ether by Phil Beaudreau

I have actually 0 idea where to begin on what genre this is.

Experimental neofolk.

All of these are very strong albums that other years could well be my number one of the year (and Teledrome is my album of the year)

Metamodern Sounds In Country Music by Sturgill Simpson

No contest for country album of the year, and probably one of the best of the decade.

It's been a pretty weak year over all, although i think folk and country has done well. Especially the women like Nikki Lane, Lydia Loveless, and a few others.

I probably have more female led vocals on my 2014 chart than i have on any other.

Revolution909's Best Of 2014 So Far

6. St. Vincent - St. Vincent

5. Katy B - Little Red

4. Ben Frost - A U R O R A

3. Todd Terje - It's Album Time

2. FKA twigs - LP1

1. Hercules & Love Affair - The Feast Of The Broken Heart

Overall, 2014 hasn't been a great year in music for me. In fact, it would be a push for me to even label it as a good year in music. Especially after the stellar year that was 2013.

There's still hope for me yet though. I will be purchasing Rustie's Green Language and Pallbearer's Foundations of Burden (which will be my first metal album!) over the next few days. Plus there are upcoming releases by SBTRKT, Aphex Twin, Kanye and Jessie Ware so we'll see what happens.
