Hard to believe that Joan Rivers died two days ago. On the upside, this is the longest she ever went without saying something controversial .

I don't really know much about Joan Rivers the person or her politics. To me, she always symbolized artificiality, both in Hollywood and, to a lesser extent, Western civilization in general. At 80, her physical appearance was like that of a manikin of a 40-year-old and I suppose her death symbolizes the creeping inevitability of the final outcome. Some might find that unsettling, but honestly, I find our actual mortal bodies less disturbing and more beautiful than the vacuous holding pattern she tried to project.

I hated her. I didn't celebrate news of her death or anything, and I do genuinely feel for her family, but she said unnecessarily nasty and controversial things time and time again in increasingly desperate bids to stay relevant, and I'm glad I won't have to hear her spew her calculated hatred any longer.

Corpses get too much credit. They're only good at decomposing and being spooky. The only reason we are respectful for people when they die is for the sake of their loved ones, and I don't think any of her loved ones frequent BEA. Which makes it much different from Joan Rivers spouting off about the recently deceased on something with more widespread viewership, as I assume she did from what Satie has said. And, really, it's like, why alter what you would say about a person when they were alive only now that they can't hear it? Anyways, I know her name and face but I don't know anything about her.
