I think it was a major mistake that the producer of Metallica's And Justice For All turned down the bass guitar so low that you can't even hear it. That would have changed it from a classic album to a perfect album.

ugh! I actually love this topic because I catch them all the time and now my mind is blank... I remember hearing some in Beatles early work and then R.E.M., and I can't remember but there's this one song where the singer comes in early, laughs and then comes in on time and they left it in.... actually now that I think of it, this has happened in probably 10 songs.

I have a CD copy of Agaetis Byrjun where the album cover of Von is printed on my CD and it says "copyright 1997".

i used to work at a record store in college. I we received a copy of Neil Young's "after the gold rush" but the lettering was rose colored instead of gold. Of course i bought it. How much do you think that is worth?

There was a pretty embarrassing mistake during the recording of The Wall where Gilmour totally forgot to tell Roger Waters to stop being such a wank, leading to the album we know today.

When the vocals come in on Echoes by Pink Floyd (what I consider the greatest song of all time), you can hear Gilmour opening his mouth, and it makes a subtle smacking sound. It doesn't bother me because it always signals the beginning of those uber-trippy vocals.

It's around 2:50 in.

Richards wanted a horn section playing the riff instead of a guitar. There's just... no way that would have been better.

At the very beginning, there's a piano chord that rings out. Apparently one of the guys in the band leaned on this piano that he didn't realize had its lid open.

From around :43 to :50, you can hear Gilmour coughing and sniffling. Legend has it he gave up smoking after noticing that on the recording.

Well, it is interesting to note that the Rolling Stones song 'Satisfaction' was only intended as a Demo by Keith Richards at the time. But, for whatever reason, it was released anyway, only to become one of the most popular and well known songs of all time. Strange, isn't it? Perhaps it could have been so much better...

According to legend, the tambourine at 1:21 is actually the tambourine falling on the ground, not an intentional hit, and if you compare it to other verses, this seems to be the case.

i always find it interesting when a mistake makes it into a released CD... sometimes intentionally, sometimes not.

a couple intentional inclusions that spring to mind:

1) on The Breeders' Title TK, in the final song "Huffer", Kim Deal flubs one of the lyrics and says "Fuck!" but keeps going, and i think it adds a charming bit of human fallibility to the song.

2) on MeShell Ndegeocello's Bitter, the song "Wasted Time" (a duet with Joe Henry) abruptly ends in the middle of a line. i love the disc, and at the time i thought maybe it was a manufacturing error. i wrote to the record company, and i actually got a reply... apparently the tape ran out in the middle of a take, but the singers and producer were so thrilled with the quality of the performances in the take that the decided to release it that way.

an annoying accidental mistake:

3) on Lilys' In The Presence Of Nothing, in the long droning intro to "Elizabeth Colour Wheel" there is a glitch as the result of a mastering error. unfortunately, a corrected version has never been released.

the most annoying accidental mistake:

4) in the 2-disc remastered reissue of My Bloody Valentine's Loveless, there is a glaring digital transfer audio glitch in one of the two versions of "What You Want". what's really annoying is that the remasters were announced years before they were actually released, and they were delayed and delayed and delayed some more, and in all that time apparently nobody bothered to actually listen to the finished product and fix an ugly mistake.
