If they're truly random that's not a very difficult choice. Neither option gives you the chance to listen to new music ever again, and I imagine most people would choose 100 100/100 albums over 200 75/100 albums any day. I certainly would.

Picked "No more new music." Here's the thing. A good album gets better the more times you hear it (generally). Many of my top 100 have been able to bear up to repeated listenings, some as many as 30 years worth. I would have to a new album a lot over 30 years before I love it as much as my top 10, which you (evil dimension guy) would be taking away from me.

I just went through and revised my top 100, and I'm pretty happy with it. I could enjoy listening to it over and over.

By the way, the choice was "no new music" implying that I would get to keep all of my top 1000 (or whatever) I just couldn't add anything to it.

Note: It's not that I don't like new music. It's a great joy to me discovering new music. However, it's not as great a joy as going back and revisiting an old favorite.

If it was just the top 100, I'd pick new music begrudgingly, knowing that I know TATE, Foiled, Unknown Pleasures, Rubber Soul, and Deja by heart. If it was top 250 even though, I think I'd pick no new music.

I've already heard these albums so much and I know almost all of them by heart that I really don't feel the need to go back to them that much anymore, although that might change with time. I've been exploring new music throughout this year and am continuing to search for obscure albums that I've never heard and trying to find new albums that I end up enjoying.

I'm too sentimental to give up my top 100. Well, it isn't 100. Perhaps it is like saying "I'd rather hold onto the memories I have than create new memories" which maybe isn't good. I don't like this question. 🙁 But yeah I can't imagine life without my top nineteen and I feel like they're albums I can get something from always and forever. There are lots of albums on my chart I only have a superficial relationship with anyways, and there is always room to make it more in-depth, so...I like having things to rely on. I'm maybe a tad unadventurous in this regard but I think having things to hold onto and cherish and love forever is important.

Only being able to hear music that I've already heard before sounds like torture to me. I'd rather sit in silence.

I've always been really extreme with this. Like if I had to pick 5 records to take to a desert island that would be the only records I'd ever get to hear again, I'd take 5 records that I'd never heard before. If I ended up disliking all of them, so be it.

You are exiled to another dimension. You get to choose between two. In one dimension, people are unable to produce music anymore. There was some war, and only 100 albums are left. There's been a technology relapse, and it's clear music will not be recorded again in your lifetime. Luckily for you, the few albums that survived are all albums from your list. In the other dimension, the albums on your list never happened. Should you choose not to choose, you will be thrown into another dimension altogether, and in this one, there is no music - only silence.
