There must be loads of hip hop remixes that outdo the original. Can only think of the Pete rock remix of PE's shut em down. Far better than the original, a classic even. Remember the prodigy did a great remix of method man release yo delf.

Exactly. The original is like a store-bought pastrami sandwich; the remix is a Brick Lane Beigel Bake special.

Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington project, Darkside remixed Daft Punk's Random Access Memories in it's entirety. Even though it was clearly made for fun and they didnt spend a lot of time in the production, I thought of it a great album.

I really enjoy remixes like Bibio's remix of Clark - Ted, where the original somg is basically recreated with completely different instrumentation, and it's more of a mislabeled cover. Anyone know any others like that?

I used to like that version of "19-2000" more than the original, and part of me still does. There are a couple remixes on the Death Cab Keys and Codes that I prefer over Codes and Keys ("Some Boys," "Doors Unlocked and Opened," and "Unobstructed Views,") as well as a few remixes that Tegan and Sara did for both "Alligator" and "I Was a Fool." Bon Iver's Stems Project was also cool. There was a "Minnesota, WI" remix that I absolutely loved.
